They had a major character who happened to be gay. At the end of his run, The Doctor went back before they met and set him up with a gay lover as a parting (a never have met-ing?) gift. That didnt strike me as particularly homophobic at the time...
What year was that in? I let my kids see older Dr. Who episodes, but I don't want them exposed to that garbage.

First season of the reboot with Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor. The gay character was Captain Jack Harkness, played by John Barrowman (who is gay in real life).
