Climate change could "halt and reverse" progress made in human health over the last century.
The grim analysis comes from one of the authors of a new report in the New England Journal of Medicine that suggests rising global temperatures could lead to many more deaths than the 250,000 a year the World Health Organization predicted just five years ago.
An editorial accompanying the report urges medical professionals to take this report seriously. Its co-author, Dr. Caren Solomon, suggests doctors have a "special responsibility to safeguard health and alleviate suffering," and that mission should include working quickly to curtail greenhouse gas emissions.
Health care workers, she said, should encourage their organizations to reduce their carbon footprint.
Solomon said physicians can also pressure politicians to create better climate change-oriented public policy and put pressure on groups to use financial divestment as a tool.
Doctors can also help educate patients and motivate people to act.
"We all know that prevention in medicine is enormously more effective and efficient, rather than waiting for full blown disease. We view climate change in the same manner and know that if we take action immediately, we can avoid the catastrophic health effects that are projected," Solomon said.

Then again, I did read yesterday that the beaches in Cali are doomed due to the 2.5 to 5.5 foot sea level rise in the next 80 years. Have they started relocating LAX yet? Or just build a 20 foot high sea wall. DOH! No walls. Oceans have rights too.

Climate change, if it exists, is an effect, not a cause and cannot cause anything. Words have meanings.
Well, I used my brand new SnowJoe with an 18 inch cut to cut through about 8 inches of glowbull warming yesterday morning and later in the day/early evening we had rain to help create a muddy mess. And more snow predicted for today. Oh well. Stupid algore.

Climate change happens, humans may well have some degree of impact on it, at least at a localized level, but to act like catastrophic weather is all the cause of climate change and is all our fault is both ridiculous and asinine.
Why not 250M or 500M? No need to prove any number they come up with because climate change could be anything for any reason or no reason at all.
