Always wondered what sort of relationship Ermey had with Vincent D’Onofrio after they made “Full Metal Jacket”. Suspect it was not warm and fuzzy.

People make mistakes. He admitted it was a huge mistake.
I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Semper Fi, Gunny.
The world is a bit colder with you gone.
Rest in Peace.

My wife and I got a chance to speak with him a couple of times. I brought our Weinerdog to an event he was at. R. Lee had lost his Weinerdog not shortly before so he snuggled our dog and talked passionately about what a good friend he had just lost. It was not the way one might imagine a visit with him would be.

People make mistakes. It’s life.

If we were perfect, there wouldn’t be mistakes. But we’re not. So there are.

That doesn’t negate everything else he accomplished and all the good he did - which is way more than a lot of us ever will accomplish in our short trips around the sun.

“He admitted it was a huge mistake.”

Must have been the first time. I can’t imagine him doing that twice.

I know quite a few people I respect that admitted to me that they voted for Obama.

The MSM was more effective back then. And by the end of Bush’s 2nd term the GOP was thoroughly drug thru the mud.

But every one of them except one fessed up that it was a mistake.

I hated you, you rotten son of a bitch !

You were in my face aways calling me and us girls, ladies, pukes, pieces of shit, assholes and a few others I can't remember.

My legs roared with pain, my arms bursting from "just one more", my mind desparately trying to fantasize me growing up like the cartoon HULK and whippin' the SHIT out'a you, but you were relentless, you son of a bitch.

But I made it through Basic Sahge (I was in the Army n' we didn't have gunny's) ... n' I was from Boston n' had no "R's .... just AH'es, n you was SAHGE.

And you started me on the CORRECT road to manhood I didn't see comin' until 30 or so years later.

So thanx, Sahge .... rest now .... and I hope I've learned something from you that I passed on to MY boys and any others I could influence.

Thank you for helping me be an American man.
