The fallout is continuing from last week's dispute over a Donald Trump re-election flag being displayed by fans of the Jordan High School boys basketball team during its game against visiting Minneapolis Roosevelt.
Jordan has pulled out of an invitational basketball event scheduled for Monday Martin Luther King Jr. Day being hosted by Minneapolis Roosevelt. Jordan was to have played Minneapolis Patrick Henry at 5 p.m.
"Given recent events, we believe the participation of our team in the event will detract from the hard work of the athletes and the upbeat focus of the MLK Showcase," Jordan School District Superintendent Matthew Helgerson said in an e-mailed statement Sunday.
"After discussion with the MLK Showcase event coordinator, a decision has been made to pull out of the MLK Showcase game on Monday, January 21st," the statement said. "We do not want our presence at the event to detract from the athletes. We will continue to work with the Minneapolis School District to move forward in a positive direction."
Henry coach Jamil Jackson said event organizers had been told Jordan was fearful something might happen to the players if they came to Roosevelt to play, calling that "totally unjustifiable." In response to that, Helgerson said: "Fear was not our reason."

Civil War II is coming folks. We and lefties can’t get along.
Why would any team have a problem with Trump 2020?
What does being an “inner city” team have to do with it?
There’s no reason for a campaign banner at a h.s. ball game. What the heck.
Kinda like when the inner city yuts were wearing obama t-shirts all the time...
And there’s no reason a poster shouldn’t read the article before posting a comment.
“Barack Hussein. Obama, Ummm Ummm Ummm”
Sung and taught in public school to the outrage of no teacher or administrator.
No kidding. Those videos from the media-generated controversy with the Catholic kids at the Lincoln Memorial convinced me: the American experiment is over.
This is beyond stupid.
I’m very familiar with Jordan. Nice small town.
I’m very familiar with the schools in Minneapolis.
I wouldn’t go there either. For any reason.
Feminism and the female takeover of society was never a good idea. EVERYTHING is an "OMG" moment now. SICKENING.
The other team stayed in the locker room for the playing of the National Anthem.
What about MAGA hats? The Dems and the MSM have successfully linked Trump with racism. When it comes to implied or overt threats to Trump supporters, anything goes. Republicans are being harassed in restaurants, airports, at the Lincoln monument, etc.
There must be more to the Trump banner at a HS basketball game. It is probably in response to some action taken by the school or other groups at the school. Nothing happens in a vacuum.

The foreigners and thugs from Minneapolis are offended by anything American. That’s it.
They sit in the locker room at every game until the anthem is over. Scumbags.
Yes it’s pretty surprising to see such a banner at a game, but perhaps I can explain. Generation Z is far more conservative then the Millennials. And they’re pissed off and sick of political correct Ness, and don’t care who knows it. My kids and their friends in high school hate Millennials and hate liberals and love Trump.
Yep and they play the black national anthem courtside at home games instead of the Star Spangled Banner.
Cool. I have no problem with individuals wearing campaign gear, but a banner seemed like a lot.
I just remember how much everyone lamented the left injecting politics into sports, that sports was to escape from all that.
Peaceful coexistence with these people is not possible. We need to stop pretending it is.

The other team stayed in the locker room and worse than that...their coach obviously allowed and/or encouraged it
I would love to read it.
