Chicago may be known as the "Second City," but it remains Number 1 in the ranking of most corrupt big cities in the nation, according to a new report.

The report, titled "Corruption in Chicago and Illinois," released Monday from the University of Illinois at Chicago notes that while there's been a decline in recent years of federal convictions for public corruption, the Windy City still leads other localities.

"Additionally, Illinois remains the third most corrupt state when compared on a per capita basis to other large states and the District of Columbia," the report's authors note.

CHICAGO REDUCES MURDER RATE IN 2018 BUT LEVEL STILL OUTSTRIPS LA AND NY COMBINED

The group used the most recent figures from the Department of Justice's Public Integrity Section, which found that there were a total of 25 public corruption convictions during 2017 in the Northern District of Illinois, which includes all of Chicago and the northern third of Illinois. That was down from 30 in 2016 and down an average of 33.6 per year over the last 10 years.

"There were a total of 34 cases of public corruption convictions in all of Illinois, proving that public corruption is not just a big city problem," the authors noted.

Since 1976, when the DOJ began keeping track of public corruption statistics, there were 1,731 people convicted of public corruption in the Chicago area. In the same time period, there were 1,534 people in Los Angeles, 1,327 in New York, 1,165 in Miami and 1,159 in Washington D.C.

"These five districts, Chicago, Los Angeles, Manhattan, Miami and Washington D.C. led all of the 93 federal judicial districts for the 47-year period since 1976," according to the report.

I love living in the greatest state of the union, Louisiana. Don’t confuse Louisiana with that rat infested hell hole, New Orleans. Love you!

Illinois— the only place where your license plate might be made by a former governor.

For states, California has to be near the top. LA is certainly at the top of the list.

Albany must not qualify as a big city.

Indeed. The federal government would improve tremendously if only Al Capone were alive to run Congress

In Illinois, their governors also make their license plates.

Convictions.
That means someone is bothering to investigate and prosecute.
What happens where the authorities are not so inclined?
I wonder what will happen when someone decides to investigate California.

And the number for DC is explained by so much government being there. That is the only industry of that place.

“The federal government would improve tremendously if only Al Capone were alive to run Congress”

That’s a great way to put it. I am sure Al Capone would have a higher regard for the country.

What is worse, is that Dicky Jr didn't even get the slightest charge for closing Meigs Field, and collecting the profits. The planes that were parked there had to take off from the taxi strip.

What if, just for a change, that the corrupt thieves actually were sentenced to an honest to God chain gang, for life, listening to the jingle of those ankle chains?

Wouldn't that be a giggle?

“I feel so bad for those poor residents.”

I’m afraid I don’t. The city can handle its own laws and problems. If they think the governor is not doing his job, replace him. If the police chief or the mayor isn’t either replace them too. They are letting this happen, they have to stop it. They just have to want to. And some have to die getting it accomplished. The laws are in place, just abide by them or take them off the books. But they shouldn’t complain about the surroundings if they are not going to do anything about it. And since they aren’t, they don’t need anyone’s sorrow.

And I am sad to say they are not the most dangerous crime area in the US. There are 56 other cities more dngerous than they are based upon population. Here’s the list that you don’t hardly hear about if at all:

https://www.neighborhoodscout.com/blog/top100dangerous

They just have the media to make it appear it is so dangerous. And it’s campy.

“Albany must not qualify as a big city.”

It isn’t, actually. It just has a high concentration of corrupt scumbags, most of which came up from the NYC area as elected officials.

In the real world no. In the university report from Chicago, apparently they have. I guess it is hard to ignore the data of a place that is in the #1 slot

It’s not campy, it’s mind-numbing, and I do feel sorry for them because they have arguably the most entrenched one-party systems in the country.
