Rand Paul Is Right to Reject Trump’s Emergency Declaration
NRO ^ | March 5 2019 | Katherine Timpf

Senator Rand Paul has announced that, despite supporting improvements in border security, he will vote against President Trump’s emergency declaration on the grounds that it’s an abuse of executive power — and he’s absolutely right.

“Every single Republican I know decried President Obama’s use of executive power to legislate,” Paul wrote in an opinion piece for Fox News. “We were right then.”

In a related note, I am headed to Utah this weekend to ski for a week. Anybody know where I can get a good-looking cap or long-sleeve t-shirt that says “Mitt sux”????

“The biggest emergency is that Congress has refused all sensible attempts to protect the American people from the consequences of an open border . . . and it’s about a whole lot more than illegal immigration.”

That is the biggest emergency. Our corrupt and illegitimate 4 trillion dollar stasi state refuses to protect the states from invasion. A constitutional mandate.

And that is exactly why I’m convinced that bloodshed is going to decide the fate of America. AND SOON!

They know this is big issue for POTUS and see this as their weasel opportunity to weaken him.

This is enormously more than a big issue for President Trump, it’s a big issue for America and its people, so instead of weakening him I think it will substantially increase his support base.

Rand has always been pretty loopy. Just like his Dad. Set up a mic anywhere in DC and grand-stander Rand won’t be far behind.

Miss Katherine, RINO politicians didn't understand that 2016 was not business as usual. Neither did the media or the intelligentsia.

Neither you, nor the media, nor politicians seem to understand that what's happening at the border means "not business as usual."

Some people are just slow learners.

I called. I also emailed. Anyone
want to bet I’ll get a response?
“Thank you for taking the time to contact my office. I always appreciate hearing from my fellow Americans. As a United States Senator from Kentucky, my office prioritizes responding to Kentuckians. We will review your comments, but should you be in need of immediate assistance, I encourage you to reach out to the Senators and Representatives from your state.”

Has Rand Paul made the same statement for any other National Emergency declaration? Has Congress even voted on other National Emergency declarations? Those that I recall were basically ignored or rubber stamped by Congress.

Congress gave this power to the president decades ago, I cannot recall that any previous declarations were met with this much push back.

The issue right now- Is there a National Emergency on the border? Anyone who says there is not is either seriously uninformed or supporting open border agenda. It really is that simple.

It is also switching horses in mid-stream to bring up the validity of a president having this power only now, when it concerns this issue after all these years of silence.

If Rand Paul and others don’t want any president to have this power then that is a separate issue and they need to address that. Voting against this Emergency declaration is supporting open borders and illegal immigration.

Congress needs to fix the asylum loophole and other immigration issues that are the root cause of this invasion. Congress ignoring these issues is what got us to this point.

With the laws and court decisions that have been made concerning enforcement and the way we deal with asylum if Congress does not fix this (and we all know this Congress will not) then the only hope of getting our border back under control is to BUILD THE WALL.

elections have consequences. The lovely democrats and about 25% of republicans say there is no problem on the border. That’s what they say, don’t get mad at me.

according to the NEA 1976, congress can override a declaration with a joint resolution. Trump can veto. Congress can override the veto. We’re in the middle of that process following the law now.

Rand Paul is wrong to reject it if he believes in the US federal Constitutional Republic. The democrats want to destroy our republic and the easiest way to do that is to ship in millions from third world countries who only know authoritarian governments.

A third party can only work in a Parliamentary style government. In a winner takes all form of government which is what all federal elections in the US are, a third party simply guarantees one or the other party will always end up in second place.

This confirms that Timpf really is as loopy in real life as her Gutfeld show persona.

She is willing to let the USA commit suicide because of her precious “principle.”

I may now have to “mute” her when they point the couch camera to her. This is similar to “The Five,” which is contaminated by the recurring appearance of the insufferable Dem dunce Juan Williams.

As we chased ISIS from the territories it controlled, there were dedicated fighters who no longer had a place to rule. There is a very real danger that these men will try to repay the USA by illegally entering and then attacking civilians.

Trump is 100% correct that the porous borders put us at great risk to terrorist attack. The idea of fighting

oops. pressed post by accident.

I was saying that we have a philosophy of fighting terrorists abroad so we don’t have to fight them here, but as we shut down their opportunities to fight them in the Mideast, the only option they have is to try to come here. Porous boarders create a real danger.
