So is Matthew (the inerrant Word of God).

Often the words of the Apostles have to be studied and analyzed in context to be fully understood.

Given that Luke 6:20 was about what Jesus said after moving off the "mount" and down to a "plain" and was said to the disciples instead of the multitude of Matthew 5, there has been a great deal of study and commentary about exactly what he (Luke) meant by the word "poor." Was this a recitation of what was just said on the Mount or was this a completely new pronouncement in which the "poor in spirit" was expanded to include all "poor"? And "poor" in what terms?

Most interpretations agree that he said "Blessed are YE poor" in direct reference to the disciples (and possible referencing all they had given up to follow Jesus).

Whatever was meant, the Pope has co-opted the Gospel here to spread his communist message...and that was not the intend of the Gospel (even after taking into account Acts 4:32-37).
