Could be an overall strategy. The Rats can see these very vocal leftists are hurting them. The Rats got where they are by masking themselves. Appearing to Isolate “fringe” members forwards the notion that the Democrats have not gone off the rails. These socialists are who the Rats are.
That sounds VERY likely.
But even that is a game they may take too far if the fringe decides that they are impatient.
