Thank what that means for a moment...
The most eye-opening experience I've had in life was the process of finding a school and scholarship money for my oldest son. He was valedictorian of his class and scored sky-high on the SATs. He is a genuine genius.
Ivy league schools across the country turned him down. Scholarships as well. The best he could qualify for was a $5000/yr scholarship from the company that I worked at. While it helped, it didn't put a dent in the $39,000 per year tuition at where he ended up -- Purdue.
When we brought up his lack of ability to land an Ivy League school with councilors, we literally heard them say on several occasions: "Being a valedictorian doesn't really count. There are 20,000 valedictorians in the country each year."
My daughter went through the same process and was turned down everywhere -- even though she graduated fifth in her high school class. She ended up at Purdue as well, but paid her own way like my son.
Counter that with my daughter's boyfriend. He was a middling student with middling grades. Little or no ambition. BUT, his father is Mexican lineage -- though his family's been in the country since his great-grandparents. It was enough to check the box, though. As a result, he got immediately accepted to Purdue on a full ride.
My son is now a bonefide rocket scientist, working as a ballastician on the Mars mission project. My daughter has landed a job at a well-known biomedical firm as an engineer. Both are on fast-tracks to upper management at their firms.
While their hard work demonstrates what it takes to succeed, I found the entire process disgusting and highly depressing. What passes these days for university qualifications has NOTHING to do with ability or scholastic achievement.
It's all about checking the leftist boxes.
I knew a very liberal white guy who bragged to me about getting his daughter a scholarship intended for black students. It was through some small organization, and the application neglected to require applicants to provide a photograph—as they just assumed all applicants would be black.
At some point later, while his daughter was in college, they had a social event with the scholarship group and he showed up with the daughter—both lily-white with the group of all blacks. Not very comfortable, but apparently they didn’t lose the scholarship.
This is where the Rubber hits the Road, and the Left gets on board with us. A white person cheating on race, other than Warren, will not go over well with them, not at all.
P
And deny these poor children of their white privilege? What were they thinking?
Maybe financial aid is covering tuition for your daughter's BF. Maybe he's embarrassed to say so. Financial aid, of course, is based on family income.
We sometimes notice that an applicant’s race will change over time. I actually wrote a query to track it.
You are not allowed to ask about race or gender during the entire process. So if he says he is a black woman, you have to accept that.
Beautiful ......
His father is a federal judge...
I knew a guy back in the 1970s who applied for a scholarship that required foreign language proficiency. He put down Australian. He got the scholarship. Apparently, the applications were not examined very closely. For a couple of thousand dollars a year, I’d add “crikey” to a sentence once in awhile.
Warren’s cheating went over like a lead balloon with the Cherokee tribe, as it should have. What’s really bad is there was zero ruckus at any liberal organization or in any of the press. She’s gotten a complete pass for her egregious and blatant cheating. It’s no surprise that the leftists would not call her out for such cheating. They are hypocritical about everything and never, ever criticize anything that might slow down the march toward communism.
Good point! All the millions in bribes that the HBCs could have raked in never realized. All they got was a bunch of middling students.
Why is her DOB blocked out? Did she think she was Jack Benny?
who are they?
And Fauxcahontas, of all people, criticized them.
The guy on the left took SAT exams for others.
The guy on the right did the same in the series, “Suits.”
Oh. Never mind then. lol Hmmm... interesting.
Like your eldest, mine also had trouble finding scholarships at colleges, even though his SAT score was just high enough for the Ivies. Mine validly could call himself a quote-unquote “minority” (I hate that word), but he doesn’t check off any boxes.
So, he was all set to give up and go to the community college, when I noticed a smaller college with low tuition had scholarship money left. On its website, the scholarship requirements were very clear, outlining which SAT scores earned which scholarships, and his score would give him practically a full ride. Best decision I ever made was pushing him into the car and rushing him down there.
I noticed that Purdue’s scholarship requirements are vague. Here’s why I mention that:
When my son was applying, most of the universities clearly stated their scholarship requirements. One of them was a college the same size as Purdue, and he missed qualifying for its honors program (and a full ride) by only 40 SAT points.
The very next year, that university changed its requirements: Now honors was open to “the highest SAT scores,” etc., but the college no longer mentioned what those scores should be. And - guess what - a student we knew was accepted into its honors program - with a lower SAT score than my son’s. That student happened to be white.
Now, someone else might wonder about that. But, I knew that the university had changed its scholarship standards that year.
Could it be that Purdue made the same change?
Zactly! Its been a scam for a long long long time. That this lily white, 1024/1000 fraudess has been able to be placed in our government is sickening. Warren should be mopping floors at a McDonalds somewhere Most of our government reps are not smart enough to be where they are. Their college graduations were bought. Their are seats were bought and paid for by family who came before them, who funded wings to their alma matas. This. Is. Why. Elite. Colleges. Are. In. Existence. Today. Its a pipeline to government/congressional work and the reason why most colleges are left leaning today.
