Trump should stop attacking and lying about McCain
Washington Examiner ^ | March 20, 2019 10:00 AM | Quin Hillyer

One can spend several days trying not to overreact to President Trump’s latest, unprovoked tweetstorm against the late Sen. John McCain R-Ariz., yet still conclude that there is something sick and twisted about Trump’s obsession with the singular American hero Trump disparages.

Tom Rogan already in these pages has eloquently explained why, fake heel spurs or no fake heel spurs, Trump could never be fit to wear McCain’s discarded shoes. And lawyer George Conway, husband of top Trump aide Kellyanne Conway, has presented a persuasive case that Trump’s fulminations about McCain and other bizarre eruptions are signs of a personality disorder.

What remains, though, is a reminder that on facts as well as fulminations, Trump’s flip-out against McCain is full of falsehoods.

First, as many others have noted, Trump repeatedly accused McCain of trying to spread the so-called “Steele dossier” as a way to block Trump’s election, but the undisputed evidence shows McCain didn’t even become aware of the dossier until after Election Day. (Plus, McCain did exactly what a senator should do when provided such material: He turned it over to the FBI, without prejudice. But that’s beside the point about Trump’s dishonesty.)

What has not been as adequately refuted is Trump’s allegation that McCain voted against a bill to “repeal and replace” Obamacare, and that McCain’s vote was a big surprise. Neither element of that story is true.

First, by the time a healthcare bill finally reached a vote in the Senate, it was in no way, shape or form a “repeal and replace” bill. In reality, it was a shell of a bill known as “skinny repeal,” which did next to nothing other than keep...

If no one fights or defend him then who does it besides himself? Should he just sit there and take it like Dubya? Should the fact that McCain tried to damage him without cause be swept under the rug? Get used to it because that is Trump's personality. As you said, you don't have to like it but it's who Trump is.

McCain was a vile POS his whole life. He was a selfish unamerican grifter who betrayed every trust he was given. Hundreds of thousands died from his plots. At deaths door he laid a plot to conduct a coup.

I’m glad he is dead

If McCain was such an honorable man he would have taken the dossier to Trump first. He also wouldn’t have lied to everyone about his vote.

Actually, why don’t you face facts? You’re the asshole here, not Trump or other freepers. He’s been a great president. You don’t like his style? Do a write-in for Yeb! in 2020.

We are at war.

We are dealing with actual Nazis in this country.

You grow up.

John McCain was among the enemy.

To Hell with John McCain and anyone who supports or defends him.

Strap your nut sack on, things are going to get very serious, very soon.

“The guy is dead. It’s like the first lesson you learn - don’t speak ill about the dead or criticize someone who can’t defend themselves.”

That’s the dumbest proposition I’ve heard in a while. So one should not speak ill of Hitler, Stalin, Che Guevera, etc.? You expose like characters including Mcphony who’ve impacted history to the light of truth to learn from their lunacies.

I agree. But in this case, I don’t think it advances his standing or position with anyone. Look around, everyone is killing him for it.

Conway needs to sit him down and say look pal, you’re right. McCain was a duplicitous liar. Just like every other politician. But if you do this, you’ll look like a sore loser, a whiner and a baby and it will hurt you.

Like it or not, most of the nation adored McCain. Attacking him isn’t going to help. Trump should realize this and frankly, just suck it up.

If the dossier is really bogus, he has nothing to worry about. Mueller isn’t going to do $hit.

“I don’t know about the lying, but he should shut his fat mouth about McCain. The guy is dead. It’s like the first lesson you learn - don’t speak ill about the dead or criticize someone who can’t defend themselves”

I’m sure that is something you religiously stick to, huh?

He doesnt owe that p*ick a damn thing considering what he’s done, and how that still affects his administration, so spare us the RINO tears.

“He has no tact. He never rises above. The Presidency should sometimes BE above the fray. He has never mastered this. “

George Bush did. Tell us how that worked for him. Same thing with Romney and room temp McCain.

And do eveyone a favor and dont complain about weak RINOs in the future.

Normally, I think most would agree. But we're talking about someone that did as much damage to this country over the last 25 years as both Clinton's and Obama combined.

Whenever Republicans were in a position to do something good for America or have had a chance to undo damage done by Democrats, McCain was always the one leading the charge to undermine everyone and everything.

It didn't matter if Republicans had control of Congress, the Senate or the White House, McCain and a few of his buddies that are still in power today, made sure Democrats were ALWAYS in charge.
