An end to the Aids epidemic could be in sight after a landmark study found men whose HIV infection was fully suppressed by antiretroviral drugs had no chance of infecting their partner.
The success of the medicine means that if everyone with HIV were fully treated, there would be no further infections.
Among nearly 1,000 male couples across Europe where one partner with HIV was receiving treatment to suppress the virus, there were no cases of transmission of the infection to the HIV-negative partner during sex without a condom. Although 15 men were infected with HIV during the eight-year study, DNA testing proved that was through sex with someone other than their partner who was not on treatment.
Its brilliant fantastic. This very much puts this issue to bed, said Prof Alison Rodgers from University College London, the co-leader of the paper published in the Lancet medical journal. Earlier studies have also shown the treatment protects heterosexual couples where one partner has HIV.
She added: Our findings provide conclusive evidence for gay men that the risk of HIV transmission with suppressive ART [antiretroviral therapy] is zero. Our findings support the message of the international U=U campaign that an undetectable viral load makes HIV untransmittable.
This powerful message can help end the HIV pandemic by preventing HIV transmission, and tackling the stigma and discrimination that many people with HIV face.
Increased efforts must now focus on wider dissemination of this powerful message and ensuring that all HIV-positive people have access to testing, effective treatment, adherence support and linkage to care to help maintain an undetectable viral load.
In 2017, there were almost 40 million people worldwide living with HIV, of whom 21.7 million were on antiretroviral treatment. An estimated 101,600 people are living with HIV in the UK,

I dont know how Seth gets away with what he gets away with. He sometimes offends me, but thats fine. He seems like the rare far lefty who you could have a beer with.
There is a commercial shown on a few tv stations for a drug that is supposed to stop HIV transmission, I believe it’s called Truvada “for prep.” The commercial is disturbing. Look it up on youtube if you haven’t seen it.

Also AIDS is not a predominantly gay disease in third world countries of Africa. It is a heterosexual disease in Africa, which also has the majority of current global HIV/AIDS rates, with it being at pandemic level in countries like Swaziland. Swaziland’s AIDS epidemic has reduced life expectancy to 32 years, in a country where 61% of preventable deaths are tied to AIDS.
In Africa, AIDS is one of the top causes of death. While only comprising slightly under 15% of the total population of the world, Africans account for nearly 70% of those who live with HIV and are dying of AIDS.
Southern Africa exhibits pandemic-level HIV infection rates, with extreme levels in the countries of Botswana, Lesotho, South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, and Zambia. By contrast, some countries in North Africa have HIV prevalence rates lower than most cities in the USA.
A large factor preventing people from getting tested and treated for HIV/AIDS is the cultural stigma associated with it. In addition to stigma, there are several other factors medical professionals site as being detrimental to HIV treatment such as male promiscuity and polygamy in some places.
Common thread between Africa’s predominant hetero and the predominant homo sexual in the US or Europe is promiscuity and polygamy.
...Chad, Niger, and Mali have the lowest HIV prevalence in West Africa while Burkina Faso, Côte dIvoire and Nigeria have the highest. Nigeria ranks second in having the largest number of people living with HIV in Africa, with South Africa ranks first. The infection rate (ratio of number of patients to the total population) based upon Nigerias estimated population is much smaller, as Nigeria is the most populace in Africa, and is generally believed to be well under 7%, as opposed to South Africas which is well into the double-digits (nearer 30%).
In this region, commercial sex is an increasingly large trade, and the main cause of infection. For example, in Accra, the capital of Ghana, HIV infections from women who sell sex make up 80% of all infections. In Niger, the adult national HIV prevalence was 1% in 2003, yet surveys of sex workers in different regions found a HIV infection rate of between 9 and 38%.

This article is disingenuous IMO, in that as long as promiscuity exists the diseases associated with it, like AIDS, will not be eliminated.
The last line is great, but for some reason, I was rolling from the sound of the hooves clicking on the bar. :D
And The Super Mario one is classic as well.
I lived in SF when strange illness occurred. Was it airborne? Nobody knew. IF so, we were all dead.
My friend, Michael, a gay man, became HIV positive. He didn’t tell. his many sex partners. END of friendship. What an evil SOB.
Veto!

We all know why this research money and effort went to HIV research instead of cancer, Alzheimer or a similar disease.
Gays have killed over 35 million people and currently over 36 million people are infected. It could have been stopped earlier, but they are extremely selfish. It could have died out quickly in California, but being liberals......
They need to answer for this over and over again until it finally sinks in deep.
1,000 male couples...
who else got used to hearing the propaganda from the 90s that HIV/AIDS was EVERYONEs virus.
Sure.
I see commercials about Truvada (a preventive antiviral treatment) and it ONLY shows males.
Why is that?
Fact is, weve been lied to from the highest (or lowest) levels of government for several decades.
HIV/AIDS is STILL primarily a disease of homosexual males. Ive read reports of upwards of 95% of new cases are among men who have sex with men (how the CDC has hid the statistics since the 90s - they changed the language).
Interesting stuff.
Im not good with lies. Hiding fundamental truths. Putting people at risk by suppressing facts and data.
Know this. If you avoid homosexual (men who have/have had sex with men) intercourse, avoid having sex with anyone who HAS (or has had) sex with homosexuals, anyone who is an IV drug abuser (they often share needles, and have sex with anyone who can provide them with drugs),, basically, remain celibate until marriage and remain faithful until death (a blessing, NOT a curse), your risk of every getting HIV/AIDS is essentially zero.
And forget about condoms. They fail. Use them for prevention of disease or pregnancy and they DO fail eventually. A zero sum game.
But give it time. Someone WILL come up with a vaccine.
Then there will be another behavior-linked virus to replace HIV.
Dont have sex outside marriage. Theres your answer
As long as gay men continue to have an average of 500 sexual partners, HIV will always exist and new diseases will afflict them.
Billions of dollars spent on "cures" for a disease caused by a degenerate and sinful lifestyle, but peanuts to cancer and heart disease research. AIDS has sucked the research dollars away from diseases which affect normal people.
21million HIV patients worldwide that are taking Truvada or another antiviral ?
Who is paying for all this?
Besides the taxpayers?
And yet seniors are effectively (in the US) being rationed healthcare through insurance companies and Medicare.
I hope that it works...
Well probably be paying for it in 3, 2, 1,...
I doubt it. Sticking your **** up someone's @@@@@@@ is probably a really good way to become infected with
something bad. If not HIV, then something else.
