Man-made Climate Change Linked to Droughts as Early as 1900, Scientists Discover
Newsweek ^ | May 3, 2019 | By Kashmira Gander

Climate change caused by humans could have caused droughts as far back as 1900, according to a study.

Scientists looked at data on the climate, as well as on tree rings dating back up to 900 years, giving an insight into moisture levels in soil over a long period of time.

In research published in the journal Nature, the team showed that as the amount of greenhouse gasses pumped into the atmosphere rose following the industrial revolution, droughts spiked between 1900 and 1949.

“The human consequences of this, particularly drying over large parts of North America and Eurasia, are likely to be severe,” the authors warned.

They said more research is needed to prove whether greenhouse gas emissions cause droughts, and to explore the interplay between this phenomenon and aerosols.

Lead author Kate Marvel, a climate modeler at Goddard and Columbia University, said: "If we don't see [droughts] coming in stronger in, say, the next 10 years, we might have to wonder whether we are right.

"But all the models are projecting that you should see unprecedented drying soon, in a lot of places."

Rain predicted for 9 of the next 15 days. The constant rains last fall made the harvest difficult. We finished the soybean harvest in mid December, some people couldn’t finish and ended up losing the crop. Now it’s raining again and there’s nothing anyone can do about it.

There really was a drier period beginning around 1900 but in actuality it was a return to a more normal weather pattern.

The latter half of the 19th Century was unusually wet in the West.

There is a global 60-70 year climate short cycle, oscillating above a longer (larger) 900-1100 year climate cycle (Minoan Warm Period = 1100-1000 BC, Roman Warm Period = 200-100 BC, Medivial Warming Period = 1100-1300 AD, Modern Warming period = 2000 AD.)

The short cycle (warmer in 2000-2010, 1940’s, 1885-1895) out west tends to be a bit drier. The mid-points of those hot spots are cooler (obviously!) include the record-setting high water flows measured in the Colorado River in 1915-1916. The cooler years of 1970 (Yes, Virginia, the world’s average temperature DECREASED substantially between 1940 and 1975 even though global average CO2 levels were increasing!), 1915, 1855 have more rain and more runoff in the far west.

But then the government decided that those 1915’s high flows would be continuous all years of every decade. So they negotiated the Hoover Dam water rights as if the river was flowing 20% higher than the real average value.

Gas lighting..

My roommate in '69/'70 used to rock back and "gaslight" until he burned a hole in his PJ's.

Come on, we’ve been effing up this planet for the other creatures since we got here! Farming! OWNING the other animals and creating industries out of eating them and processing their bodies! And plants! Holy heck! What we have done to them since we started agriculture!

No one has messed up this planet more!

After all, this planet was created for dinosaurs. Or fish. Or bacteria! Or something other than us, right? And we know this, somehow, right? That we humans weren’t supposed to be here and do what we do?

That’s one way to save he planet. Say... maybe they could invent some kind of automatic igniter device they could strap onto the backend of cows. Probably wouldn’t work for whales though.

Second year in a row here in western NC that the farmers are getting screwed on timely spring planting due to ridiculous rainfall totals.

My yard is a lake. I'm thinking of modifying my rowboat so it can cut underwater grass.

Well, I’m not finding it now, and MUST get to other things, but, I recall a graph showing TREMENDOUS droughts in CA hundreds of years before 1900.

Maybe someone can find it and post it?

If this planet was created for fish, dinosaurs, or bacteria, then, taken in total, we need to warm it back up!

(Just sayin’.)

Oops, the automatic cow fart igniter device will have to come with a catalytic converter.

Excellent points, Mr. Cook. For anecdotal evidence of the cool cycle, just ask any American who celebrated Christmas in the Ardennes Forest in 1944, but better have that conversation soon.

same people who prediceted ‘global warming’ which was so flawed they had to change the whole scams name to something more vague that they can claim about ANYTHING

Show me ALL the data (including how it was gathered) and the analysis method.

We’ve had enough of avoidance of REAL SCIENCE by these leftist frauds (many who refused to disclose their ‘proof’ - even going so far as to destroy the data they based their claims on)

It’s been bad here for that, too.

Normally, late February has them out prepping the fields but not anymore.

Whatever they plant will just wash away.

We’re under yet another severe storm watch for *days*, again.

I did see that someone managed a first cutting of alfalfa the other day.

Sure hope they get it in before it rains on it.
