If Bernie Sanders were an MLB general manager, he would probably be the type who chases bargain players rather than signing free agents to mega contracts.
The presidential contender posted a video on his Twitter account Saturday showing him at a campaign stop talking about raising pay for school teachers. And he used baseball salaries to make his point.
"If we are a nation that can provide contracts to baseball players for hundreds of millions of dollars, don't tell me we cannot pay teachers in this country the kinds of wages and salaries they deserve," Sanders said.

I feel sorry for the dogs.
"But wait a minute, that is unfair. Not every teacher can go online and make millions." someone like Bernie would say.
No, but not everyone who can throw a baseball get to be in the major leagues. And in the minor leagues of baseball, players get paid about a teacher's salary or LESS. In the Pecos league, playing in New Mexico and Texas towns, the players get $30 a game.
As soon as they hit a 95 MPH fastball.
If teachers taught economics, Bernie would have no followers.
If baseball players played baseball as well as teachers teach economics, they would be payed $1.75 a game.
To those folks who say teachers should be paid what they’re worth I say: What do you have against teachers?
In many inner city schools, teachers should be replaced by corrections officers.
LOL. So true.
Public education is an absolute mess. It depsises the Sacred Scriptures, inculcates godlessness, and then expects us to marvel at the violence in our midst.
Hey, Bernie:
Instead of paying teachers more, how about paying Baseball players less.
What is it, $15.00 an hour you commies want, for Minimum Wage? Make that across the board for the entire nation. You could call it... Oh, Directive 10-289
Never trust the logic of a commie.
Here's where Bernie gets it wrong.
It's not the "nation" that provides big salaries to baseball players. It's the baseball owners.
It's called the private sector, Bernie, not the government.
Besides, teachers have a union to negotiate their salaries.
For a communist that throws around the "free" word for everything, he fails to understand the "free enterprise" system.
Good teachers would get a big raise if we switched to a voucher system. Heck the best teachers would own the darn school. Bad teachers would have to ‘learn to code’.
I am always a little dismayed that many of the best teachers are so often stridently pro-union pro-big public school system. They surely must know they are quite literally paying for the bottom 20%-30% of teachers.
I learned early on, when one of my better middle school teachers told me that the school district locksmith made more than twice what she made.
Teachers have priced themselves out of the market. And taxpayers and states cannot print money.

So many are retired by age 50. It’s unreal.
Hey Bernie:
Be fully consistent: Top Hollywood and Broadway stars, Directors, Producers etc. often make even more than Baseball Players; How about mandating that Hollywood Stars be paid the same amount as the guy who sweeps up the set in-between scenes? That’s only fair.
Of course you won’t do it because you are hoping for big checks from the entertainment industry.
In the absence of a free market, it is impossible to determine how much a teacher deserves.
Somehow, I don’t think Bernie is in favor of restoring the free market to education.
teachers make plenty of money and bennies.....they have the simplest of degrees and work HALF the year...
Baseball players also get fired. When tenure is eliminated then we can talk about raises.
Imagine how terrible baseball would be if players could never get fired.
Those who can, do.
Those who can’t, teach.
Those who can’t teach, become politicians.
This bears closer scrutiny, since the primary authority and source for government is God, followed by the fathers of children. To be sure, there is the threat of force where gross disobedience occurs, but the underlying assumption is that obedience is good for us all, and need not be onerous slavery under duress of threats.
Yeah, that's an over simplification, but I would posit caution in speaking in extreme terms, much as I despise the current powers in play.
God bless.
Bernie is an idiot. People dont watch a 3 hour game or 165 games a year to watch a teacher bitch about working 8 moths a year while test scores falll. Tty batting .208 with 3 errors a game and see what the payday is.
