The State of California sued the Trump administration on Tuesday over the Federal Railroad Administration’s decision to cancel a nearly $1 billion grant for a high-speed railway that the state admits it no longer intends to build as planned.
Last week, the federal government followed through on its threat to cancel the $929 billion in funding, which it made earlier this year after Gov. Gavin Newsom announced in his “State of the State” address that it “would cost too much and, respectfully, would take too long” to complete the high-speed rail project, which originally was meant to connect San Francisco to Los Angeles. Newsom said he still wanted to complete part of the project in the rural Central Valley.
But President Donald Trump said that California should return the $3.5 billion he federal government had spent on the understanding that the state would be building a train that could travel between the two cities in under three hours. The governor disagreed, saying: “This is CA’s money, allocated by Congress for this project. We’re not giving it back.” He later claimed that Trump’s efforts to claw back the money were “political retribution” for California’s lawsuit against the administration’s attempt to construct a border wall — one of dozens of lawsuits it has filed against Trump’s policies.

Reapply for the grant and see where that goes. You might even have to justify it.
I’ve driven between those two cities on I-5. It’s a pretty fast drive. I-580 to I-5 and you’re flying. If they increased the speed limit to 85 even more so. I mean, at least then you’d be doing it LEGALLY. :D
Where trains for this sort of thing really work is where there is really dense population and the methodology used to get to and from train stations, as well as the format used for local travel mesh with their normal day-to-day travel lifestyle.
In a world where everyone drives their own car, this isn’t all that practical. In a world where everyone takes a cab or the subway everywhere - and they may not even have a car - this might work. Like Japan, China or New York City.
I agree with trains working in dense cities, where it is only a few minute walk to a station from anywhere in city.
But I never understood the CA high-speed train. The LA/Valley/Orange County and SF/Oakland/San Jose megalopolises are far too spread out to be practical.
Here I thought that Eric Holder had been hired by California to carry the legal ball on matters like this. After all, Eric knows the ropes in DC.
They need the money to pay for health care for illegal aliens.
If the Judge can actually READ and Tie his own shoes, he should immediately find the Ca. AG in Contempt of Court and JAIL HIM. Then file Criminal Charges for perpetrating a Fraud upon the Court.

Agreed. Far less infrastructure needed, and it already exists. And there are sufficient number of airlines supporting those routes to keep the prices reasonable.
Of course, you have to deal with TSA, but that will probably happen on the train as well.
