In [our] considered view, there has to be deterrent and punitive action in order for Iran to know that no sinister act will go unpunished; that action, in our opinion, should be a calculated surgical strike."

Hmm... IIRC, Iranian Shiites do not regard the Ka’aba as sacred. Would love for them to blow it to smithareens. The Saudis would lose their biggest cash cow.
Saudi Arabia has their own military and it’s equipped with American made hardware, they don’t need the US to defend them against Iran.
The Saudis should have been our first target in the immediate aftermath of 9/11.
And I’m still thinking it. Them and their oil....
