Either that or Lowes and Best Buy saw an opportunity to hike their prices and blame BAD ORANGE MAN for that.

Without following it too closely, I seem to recall reading that the Chinese were devaluing their currency in order to get around that.

The price of manufactured items in America FELL last month, and it was near zero for the entire past year.
AMERICAN CONSUMERS PAID ABSOLUTELY ZERO PERCENT OF THE TARIFFS.
Now, let’s see the Lefties/Chicom sympathizers in the MSM explain why the tariffs are so ruinous.

It will benefit us all if we can bring back appliances to the USA, because the stuff we have now is pure crap. Father in law just replaced his dishwasher after 26 years! Mine lasted 1 year.

The importers' huge margins were cut.
a) discourages imports;
b) encourages US production;
c) generates more tax revenues
d) no increases in prices
Smells like winning to me.

The rules are different, for the USA — because, it’s the world’s most successful ‘trading bloc’ all by itself. Smaller economies (such as Canada’s) can reap huge benefits from trade deals — because of economies-of-scale, among other things.
The USA has a huge economy, and thus great economies-of-scale. Among the “other things”, the USA is a very diverse economy, and has access to resources from the arctic to the tropics. You don’t need to import oranges, or Arctic char, for instance. The USA could be an autarky — only Hollywood, Wall Street, and Silicon Valley would really suffer from that.
