The jury just rendered its verdict on punitive damages in the Gibson’s Bakery v. Oberlin College case.
Daniel McGraw, our reporter in the courtroom, reports that in addition to the $11.2 million compensatory damages awarded last Friday, the jury awarded a total of $33 million in punitive damages, which will probably be reduced by the court to $22 million because of the state law cap at twice compensatory (it’s not an absolute cap, but probably will apply here). That brings the total damages to $33 million. We will have the breakdown soon. The jury also awarded attorney’s fees, to be determined by the judge.

Oberlin College deserves this judgement. The school has become a magnet for un-Americans teaching anti American jibberish to young minds that are not too sound to begin with. The court case is about the example that the college tried to make of their actions. Targeting a business in a smear campaign is a thing that NO college should even consider.
It would be fitting if this puts that institution out of business. Ruined by their stupidity. A, once proud, school brought to its knees by HUBRIS!

Very happy about this verdict. Oberlin deserves to be razed to the ground, and turned into a cow pasture. The cows would be smarter — and better natured — than any feminist professor.

Oh, they will notice it, but it is not a deathblow. All they have to do is reduce their annual withdrawal by 4.1%.
Maybe a few less scholarship students with good shoplifting skills and a few more who will pay full tuition.
I think the real issue is that they are going to have to change their ways in order to attract the full tuition students.

Oberlin College has an endowment of nearly one billion dollars.
