Floor fight erupts as Pelosi speaks ahead of vote to condemn Trump's 'racist' comments

Escalating tensions on Capitol Hill erupted into a contentious floor fight in the House of Representatives on Tuesday afternoon, as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke in favor of a proposed resolution condemning "racist" comments by President Trump -- even as Republican leaders stood steadfast behind the president.

As Pelosi's remarks turned personal, Georgia Republican Rep. Doug Collins rose to challenge her and demand that her words be "taken down." The extraordinary rebuke, the first of its kind by a member of Congress and a speaker of the House in decades, theoretically could result in Pelosi being barred from speaking on the floor for the remainder of the day.

"There is no place anywhere for the president's words, which are not only divisive, but dangerous -- and have legitimized and increased fear and hatred of new Americans and people of color," Pelosi, D-Calif., said. "It's so sad because you would think that there would be a given that we would universally, in this body, just say, 'Of course. Of course.'"

FTA....

Collins then stood and asked if Pelosi wanted to "rephrase that comment."

"I have cleared my remarks with the parliamentarian before I read them," Pelosi said, before walking away to applause.

"Can I ask the words be taken down? I make a point of order that the gentlewoman's words are unparliamentary and be taken down," Collins said.

TAKE THEM DOWN! TAKE THEM DOWN!!

Piglosi is in clear violation of House Rules.

Among other volumes, the House has used Thomas Jefferson’s "Manual of Parliamentary Practice" as a touchstone for House operations even today. Jefferson’s manual stated that House members cannot use language on the floor "which is personally offensive to the President."

The House also relies on Cannon’s Book of Precedents, authored by the late Missouri Rep. Clarence Cannon, a Democrat. Cannon’s book says that "personal criticism, innuendo, ridicule and terms of opprobrium" are out of the order in the House.

You all are acting like a bunch of grade-school brats. We didn’t vote you into office to have a 2 year pissing contest. Do something for US, for once, and quit your re-election posturing and get the hell to work!

"There is no place anywhere for the president's words, which are not only divisive, but dangerous -- and have legitimized and increased fear and hatred of new Americans and people of color,"

Can we now use the phrase "people of color" and "colored people" interchangeably?

And anyway, what are "people of color"? Shouldn't it be anybody who isn't an albino? And wouldn't it be incentive to single out albinos?

Is the divisive, dangerous and self loathing bigot, House Speaker Pelosi, denying the skin pigmentation of Caucasians?

Sure looks like it.

We need a resolution calling for the denial of Speaker Pelosi's skin pigmentation.

Exclusive poll: AOC defining Dems in swing states (Dems getting killed by The Squad))
axios.xom / FR Posted on 7/16/2019, 3:45:47 PM by Liz

Top Democrats are circulating a poll showing that one of the House’s most progressive members — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (a member of The Squad)— has become a definitional face for the party with a crucial group of swing voters.

Why it matters: These Democrats are sounding the alarm that swing voters know and dislike socialism, warning it could cost them the House and the presidency. The poll is making the rounds of some of the most influential Democrats in America. “If all voters hear about is AOC, it could put the [House] majority at risk,” said a top Democrat who is involved in 2020 congressional races. “[S]he’s getting all the news and defining everyone else’s races.”

The poll — taken in May, before Speaker Pelosi’s latest run-in with AOC and the three other liberal House freshmen known as “The Squad” — included 1,003 likely general-election voters who are white and have two years or less of college education.

These are the “white, non-college voters” who embraced Donald Trump in 2016 but are needed by Democrats in swing House districts. The group that took the poll shared the results with Axios on the condition that it not be named, because the group has to work with all parts of the party.

The findings:
<><> Ocasio-Cortez was recognized by 74% of voters in the poll; 22% had a favorable view.
<><> Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota — another member of The Squad — was recognized by 53% of the voters; 9% (not a typo) had a favorable view.
<><> Socialism was viewed favorably by 18% of the voters and unfavorably by 69%.
<><> Capitalism was 56% favorable; 32% unfavorable.

“Socialism is toxic to these voters,” said the top Democrat. Between the lines: Dems are performing better with these voters than in 2016 (although still not as well as in 2018). So party leaders will continue to try to define themselves around more mainstream members.

The other side: Three members of The Squad — Omar, Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts — defended their approach while appearing in Philadelphia yesterday on a panel at the annual Netroots Nation conference, AP’s Juana Summers reports: “We never need to ask for permission or wait for an invitation to lead,” Omar said, adding later that there’s a “constant struggle oftentimes with people who have power about sharing that power.”

Good for Rep Doug Collins, he knows House etiquette and rules better than the Speaker.

Pelosi is fast losing what little mental acuity she has left.

I believe the caning was several years before the war, and rather than resigning the less-than-honourable Senator from Massachusettes along with the state deliberately left the seat empty as a rebuke to Southern Honour.

Since when are the bald-faced lies about President Trump and America spewed by the Hate America Squad considered civil and acceptable? Since when did an American President have to sit quietly by and silently endure this contemptible behavior toward him? When did “go back where you came from” become racist? If you hate America, you should pack your bags and leave it.

The President responds when attacked. That is what a man does.

His has been the most inclusive presidency in decades.

The divisiveness comes from the liberals, democrats, anarchists, communists, socialists, muslim congress critters, and milk-toast republicans. All the time, every time. Oh, and the media leads the charge.

America; get behind President Trump. Seal our borders. Deport illegal immigrants. Buy American. Support American jobs, American businesses and American commerce.

MAGA. Then KAG.

Pelosi fell into Trump's trap. She knows about this poll and knows the Squad could lose her majority in 2020, so she was starting to distance herself and the leadership from them.

Then, Trump unleashed his tweetstorm. On cue, Pelosi shuts down the House and very publicly backs the Squad. So, Pelosi and the Squad are again joined at the hip and Trump has defined his opponent.
