Or allow you the opportunity to have them not deliver items of mail. USPS would certainly benefit from not having to deliver all that junk mail. Let them toss it?

Actually the post office will not deliver any mail here. UPS even drops packages off at the post office so I have to go 5 miles to pick them up also. Junk mail is a good fire starter for the wood stove in winter.

“USPS would certainly benefit from not having to deliver all that junk mail.”

Just the opposite. It requires less processing than other mail and actually subsidizes first class.

Not that there is much first class mail anymore. The internet took away a huge quantity of what used to be done by first class mail. USPS has migrated into parcel delivery.

Southern California used to be a gold mine for the post office. Mail volume in SoCal was so big it supported postal operations in several other states.

Merchant sailors, fishermen and other nomadic type workers use a screening service for their mailing address. The service will email you pictures of letters that are not junk mail(they screen the junk) and you can tell them which to forward to whatever PO box you want to receive them.

It’s a subscription service but worth it if you are on the move.

90% of the mail we get goes directly from our mailbox to the trash can.

No joking, that would be a federal offense. Only the addressee can toss the mail.
