Trump Backs Britain: ‘Iran Is In Big Trouble’
Breitbart ^ | 07/20/19 | JACK MONTGOMERY

U.S. President Donald J. Trump backed the United Kingdom after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps seized a British-flagged tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, saying the Islamic Republic is in “big trouble”.

“Iran is showing their true colours,” President Trump told reporters outside the White House, adding: “Iran is in big trouble.”

The President’s relationship with British government ministers and prominent opposition politicians, such as hard-left Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and London mayor Sadiq Khan, has often been strained, as they have rushed to commentate negatively on his administration in hopes of winning the approval of left-liberal activists and media commentators.

Nevertheless, the American leader’s attitude to his late mother’s home country as a whole has been consistently warm — in contrast to the attitude of his predecessor — and he was quick to emphasise the long-standing British-American alliance in his comments on the tanker seizures.

“[A]s you know we have a very close alliance with the UK and we always have,” he told reporters.

“We don’t have very many tankers going in but we have a lot of warships there and we’ll talk to the UK.

“We have no written agreement… but they’ve been a very great ally of ours,” he added, denouncing Iran as “nothing but trouble”.

Split the difference. Let the UK send in their Special Boat Services Teams to take the ship while the US Aircraft carrier on station provides air cover. Those ships are huge and can be easily boarded as the Iranians just proved.

If there’s a shootout during the boarding the Brits take the risks. The IAF and Navy lack the capability to directly interfere in the operation.

The Brits are past-masters at Obama’s strategy of “Leading from Behind”. Who can blame them? They were bled dry in 2 world wars and fought alone from May 1940 until the North Africa landings in 1942. And back then they could call on troops from Canada, India, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, west Africa... I don’t think very many of those (now) commonwealth countries would pickup the courtesy phone today.

The Brits, with their prohibitions on critcizing Islam and the LGBT agenda, don’t deserve our help.

LOL! Now the British and EU Governments have to side with Iran on this matter because Trump decided to support the UK.

I agree 1000%. Let the jerks take care of themselves. I hope they get a German and a French ship too. We’ll cheer them on from the sidelines.

I agree this is Britain’s problem but they will only have one chance to get it right.

I believe they should send in the necessary personnel to retake their property and when that has been accomplished take action to send an unmistakable message to the arrogant bastards in Iran.

My suggestion would be for Britain to seek out the two largest or most important ships in the Iranian Navy and sink them. It should be done both without warning and without acknowledging responsibility.

Repeat this each time the Iranians pull a stunt like this.

[They were bled dry in 2 world wars and fought alone]

They fought alone for the same reason we fought the Indian Wars and the Mexican-American Wars alone. These were their wars fought against a nearby enemy. The jujitsu they managed by maligning us for not being in their war from the beginning is rank ingratitude combined with sanctimony. It makes the postwar American drive to break up the British empire completely understandable, although still a big mistake.

Actually WW1 was a French - German affair. The Brits saw the eventuality of that was and planned a modern 5 division-strong (British) Expeditionary Force that, had it not been there, would have spelled the defeat of France in 1914. Even so, the Brits dithered for several days before declaring war.

In WW2 the only choice Britain had was to fight or cut-a-deal with Germany. Had they ‘cut-a-deal’ I’m pretty sure the Soviets would have been defeated and then Britain has major problems (kinda like now with Germany having it’s hand on the Brexit meat-grinder).

The Brits should have no trouble getting their ship back.

Just do what Iran asks of them and return the ship they seized at Gibraltar.

The US doesn’t have a dog in this hunt. And there’s no good reason to intervene.

"I say let the Brits get their own ship back without US help."
Umm, only if they do not fully cooperate with AG Barr's counter-investigation.

Bingo. File under "tough love" and "whose team do you want to be on?"

OTOH, England is currently perched on a potential Islamic powder keg, this may offer an opportunity for it to step up and act like a global leader. Wonder what Vegas says about the odds of it submitting?

Let the Brits use their new Muslim Population to fight the Muslims for their property back?? Sounds like a Suicide Mission.

Totally agree. But IF we were to help (i.e., bail out the Brits), it should be only after the English political class from May to Hunt to Boris et al publicly begs for US help.

The UK needs to deal with this decisively. If they show weakness or are unable to reclaim the ship by themselves, Iran isn’t the only nation watching.

If the UK screws this up, look for Argentina/Falklands to flare up again. Britain doesn’t have their Cold War navy or Margaret Thatcher anymore.

With a little real will and determination, the British could solve this problem on their own.

SAS, SBS, and Royal Marines could handle it.

Especially since the Brits tried to overthrow our government in 2016 and imprisoned Assange and Robinson.
The hell with that “ally”.
