Three NRA Board Members Resign Citing Leadership Incompetence
BLP ^ | Aug 2, 2019 | Jose Nino

Three members of the National Rifle Association’s board resigned on Thursday August 1, 2019.

Concerns about fiscal impropriety and mismanagement motivated the board members to resign from the organization.

The three board members — Esther Schneider of Texas, Sean Maloney of Ohio and Timothy Knight of Tennessee — claimed that they were stripped of their committee assignments after they questioned NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre’s spending habits.

BLP reported on concerns about LaPierre’s lavish spending a few months ago, which has drawn considerable criticism from members of the gun rights community.

Try GOA - Gun Owners of America. Great organization.

It would be an effective organization if the board monitored the allowances for the President. If he’s using the travel allowance to travel beyond the border of the US...that’s wrong and it needs to be repaid. If he’s buying cocktail dresses for his lady-friend, that needs to be repaid. From what I see, the board is unable to comprehend the loss of character and respect. I won’t renew my membership until he goes.

Can somebody here run down what is really going on with the NRA? I trust my fellow FR people more than media outlets. I’ve come across sources that say “all is well” to others that say “corruption and cronyism is rife” and most everything in between. I’m a member, but is the NRA really focused on what matters?

He had that chance when Ollie North suggested he do so. Instead he proved his ego is bigger than everyone else’s

Looks like my NRA has a swamp problem also.
Drain it! We need new blood in there. I think Wayne has lost touch on what the NRA
represents.

“Which are white hats?”

The three who are leaving. Wayne L has been a problem and they’re protesting. He has put the NRA in a bad position.

Looks like Ollie North was correct - even as so many claimed he was just being a dick...

Ollie North flat out said Reagan lied about Iran Contra.

Having spent years in the Reagan papers, I found no evidence of that.

I found plenty of evidence North lied. A lot.

"If lapierre has any ethics or genuine concern about the NRA's mission..."

I'm shocked that the NRA hasn't made a statement to their members - do they think we're lemmings?
Once the first hints of internal strife started, I stopped giving ANYTHING except my years dues (Rifleman subscription).

The have got to address their members, of they will start falling off.

I'm in my sixties, and I can't remember a time when the NRA wasn't either being run like a fiefdom or being "reformed" (only to turn into another fiefdom). Its value to guys like me has waxed and waned over the years, but overall it has been a plus.

I'm not heavily invested in the org (having generally considered life memberships to be equivalent to "the warranty on the box" as explained in the movie Tommy Boy), but I have a soft spot for it and I personally think it would be better off without Oliver North AND Wayne LaPierre. Like a house needing renovations about every 20-25 years, the NRA needs refreshing at this time, and that means more than just paint or wallpaper.

Oliver North was never a great choice for the president position IMO, and would have been better left somewhere on the board as a gadfly and/or counterweight. That being said...

If Wayne LaPierre remains clinging to the bannister and curtains much longer, I'll take my non-lifetime membership funds elsewhere and let someone else finance his what he and a few others feel is his personal sinecure. He has already blown a graceful exit, and it would behoove he and the NRA to contrive one that is only moderately embarrassing.

It appears with the NRA that a power struggle and battle of egos has replaced what's best for the organization and members.

I'm very concerned too.

Let's see where this goes.

One thing for sure, gun-grabbers are enraptured to see this.

Chris Cox was running the NRA-ILA. He’s out now too.

Thank you for that. You know, and I’m not saying yeah or nay at this point, but it looks to me like this ‘dust-up’ in the NRA is a concerted effort, even well orchestrated, to target LaPierre and run him out.
