Orange County, longtime GOP stronghold, now has more registered Democrats than Republicans
LA Times ^ | 8/7/19

Orange County, long a Republican stronghold, has officially turned blue.

The county that nurtured Ronald Reagan’s conservatism and is the resting place of Richard Nixon is now home to 547,458 registered Democrats, compared with 547,369 Republicans, according to statistics released early Wednesday morning by the county Registrar of Voters. The number of voters not aligned with a political party has also surged in recent years, and stands at 440,711, or 27.4% of the county’s voters.

Democratic leaders attributed the shift to changing demographics, aggressive recruitment efforts and President Trump.

Campaigning in CA is a waste of time and money for Republicans. That state is completely and permanently lost.

Well that sure is the fighting spirit. Just lay down and let them run right over you. Will never make a dent in the dems control if we do not fight for it!

“As more conservatives leave California.”

Three in my neighborhood have their homes up for sale and are moving out of state. Two to Texas and one to Arizona. All Conservatives by the way.

Demographics shift over time.

Arkansas, when Obama was elected in 2008, had:

Dem governor
2 Dem US Senators
3 Dem and 1 Repub US Representatives

Arkansas, when Trump was elected in 2016, has:

Repub governor
2 Repub US Senators
4 Repub US Representatives

Missouri is also going through a similar demographics shift.

OH no. You mean we can’t depend on California to turn red. Next you’ll be spouting conspiracy a like the sun rises in the east and the sky is blue. Nut case!

True. We do need to take some democrat states especially as Georgia, Arizona and maybe in a few elections Texas goes evil.

All we have to do is wait for San Francisco and LA to fall off into the ocean and CA will be ruby red!

Well we have had conservatives move to Phoenix, unfortunately their wives and three voting age kids are all liberals.

Could be a lot of fraudulent registrations that will lead to mail-in votes. Low risk of getting caught.

I knew it would happen in 1986, when that same Reagan betrayed his adopted state with Amnesty.

He could have forced the Democrats to own it, and denied the RINOs the template for surrender.

Exactly. Surrendering the country state be state sounds wonderful (sarcasm).

Legal ASIAN immigrants and their American born children have been big drivers in this shift, even in upper middle class areas.

I agree with you...Many of them decided to support Democrats ever since Obama was President...Obama brought many non-white voters to Democratic Party. They still are Democrats although Obama left.

I looked at some numbers provided by CA Secretary of State.

In 2014, Republican Kashkari unsuccessfully ran for Governor. He got 55.6% of OC votes. He won by 11.2%.

In 2016, Trump got 42.3% of OC votes. Hillary got 50.9% of OC votes. Hillary won by 8.6%.

In 2018, Cox got 49.9% of OC votes. Newsome got 50.1% of OC votes. Newsome won by 0.2%.

I think Cox was a stronger candidate than Kashkari. But, he lost OC by 0.2%. Things have changed in Orange County since 2014.

I think there are many anti-Trump Republicans in Orange County. Many of them did vote for Cox but not Trump...

“I could say the same thing about Virginia right now.”

Insofar as statewide elections, you are spot-on.

“Well that sure is the fighting spirit. Just lay down and let them run right over you. Will never make a dent in the dems control if we do not fight for it!”

That all sounds great, but in a state in which GOP voters are outnumbered nearly 3-1, you need to pick battles wisely and concentrate on winnable states.
