Spend more on defence or we move troops to Poland, U.S. envoy tells Germany

An envoy of U.S. President Donald Trump suggested on Friday that Chancellor Angela Merkel's unwillingness to boost defence spending might give the United States no choice but to move American troops stationed in Germany to Poland.

The comments by Richard Grenell, the U.S. ambassador to Germany, signal Trump's impatience with Merkel's failure to raise defence spending to 2% of economic output as mandated by the NATO military alliance.

"It is offensive to assume that the U.S. taxpayers continue to pay for more than 50,000 Americans in Germany but the Germans get to spend their (budget) surplus on domestic programmes," Grenell told the dpa news agency.

Germany's fiscal plans foresee the defence budget of NATO's second-largest member rising to 1.37% of output next year before falling to 1.24% in 2023.

Eastern European countries like Poland and Latvia, fearful of Russia after it annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, have raised their military spending to the 2% target, drawing praise from Trump who wants Germany to do the same.

Wow? I posted a simple fact of NATO 7 months ago and that is worth the time of my personal stalker to search and find. My personal stalker who now has been pinging me to threads to fault me for not posting in. As if I don't have other things to do in life and owe him for his crushed feelings from who knows how long ago. He has actually been Trolling my for years now. My personal stalker who has created a ping list of hate on me and added me to it without my permission.

He used to report regularly about the robust German economy, the huge surplus (the result of our American taxpayers funding their defense), 100's of thousands of "migrants" getting manufacturing jobs as a result of Merkel's solving a world "humanitarian crisis". The German people must be OK with being overrun with "migrants" because after all, she, like Obama, was reelected.

Ft. Trump may be established near Torun, Poland. Poland has offered $2 billion toward that goal. In return US would station an "armored division" there. However, this conflicts with NATO/Russia agreements not to permanently establish bases in Poland and elsewhere.

A long way from the Suwalki Gap. Considered the "Fulda Gap" of Poland.
