Portland residents, business owners want city officials to 'fix' homeless problem
Fox News ^ | August 21 2019 | Barnini Chakraborty

PORTLAND, Ore. – In the summer of 2019, Fox News embarked on an ambitious project to chronicle the toll progressive policies have had on the homeless crisis in four West Coast cities: Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Portland, Ore. In each city, we saw a lack of safety, sanitation and civility. Residents, the homeless and advocates say they've lost faith in their elected officials' ability to solve the issue. Most of the cities have thrown hundreds of millions of dollars at the problem only to watch it get worse. This is what we saw in Portland.

He doesn't know his name and the layers of dirty clothes he's wearing hang awkwardly off his body. Disheveled and scruffy, the man, who looks like he could be in his 60s, spends most of the day shuffling around the city. He walks up to a woman holding a styrofoam to-go box, snatches it from her and throws it on the ground, spilling bits of rice, chicken and peas on the sidewalk. He laughs for a second but his mood quickly turns. He spots a city worker with a broom and shouts the N-word at him before demanding he cleans up the mess.

"He's out of his mind," the worker told Fox News, with a sigh. "Watch. He'll do it again. He does it every 15 minutes."

Dear Portland Residents and Business Owners,

There is Nothing to fix, we have worked real hard to make Portland a progressive utopia, the Homeless encampments were a feature in our original design.
Enjoy.

Liberals are so cute when they get all upset.

But it won’t be enough to stop them from voting Dem so they can feel all good about themselves. Now they need to learn to feel good about the homeless problem they own.

The only people responsible for the problems that Portland, Oregon has are the Portland voters themselves...I have not one iota of concern or care about the mess they find themselves in. They should have thought of that before they voted. They voted for the Democrat, Scum & Vermin leadership and they all got exactly what they voted for....a dying city!!! Screw ‘em...all!!!

It sometimes seems like every Hallmark channel movie ever made has the hero or heroine volunteering at a homeless shelter especially on the holidays. As someone who visited the shelters and tried to assist the homeless frequently while I was working it was painfully obvious that the writers had no clue at all what the places were actually like. Liberals keep themselves completely insulated from the real world. And when the real world starts impinging on their fantasy world, they have no idea how to deal with it other than crying and whining.

If every Portlandian takes a homeless person into their home to feed and take care of, there will be no more “homeless” problem. Duh! Get with the program idiots!

Nobody ever heard of "Build it and they will come?"

If you go and look over the prison systems in most all states...probably a quarter of the population are simply people who would be better suited to sit in a mental asylum or full-time secure facility. Most of the homeless population...fall into the same category.

“The absence of affordable housing, the absence of meaningful wage jobs, structural racism and bias, interaction with the criminal justice system.”

Yes, Whitey is to blame.

...and re-opening mental health institutions with involuntary commitment.

Putting all the crazies out of the institutions was supposed to have been the “humane” thing to do. Turns out it’s about the most inhumane thing we could have done.

I actually think that these cities are past the point of no return.

When the problem was small, the police could roust the few homeless who were on the streets. Make it a bit uncomfortable for them to stay where they are.

But you can’t roust tens of thousands of people. The optics would be so non-PC. So the only other option is to build housing for them. And that would only attract more homeless to your city.

What a sad mess.

How much bigger must the “homeless problem” get before they stop electing democrats to run the cities and enact common sense legislation to put the crazies where they belong?

The scope of the bums problem is probably 100 times bigger than it was 50 years ago. So far, every “solution” has created more bums.

Use the Sam Kinnison method for combatting homelessness. Threaten to shoot them.
