Michael Goodwin wants Obama's White House phone calls released following Trump impeachment inquiry

As President Trump faces an impeachment inquiry over how he handled a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, New York Post columnist Michael Goodwin said he wants to see former President Barack Obama's calls with world leaders for a proper comparison.

"There's a lot about these calls that are strange, in the sense that we have no basis for comparison. We don’t know what presidents say to foreign leaders," he told "Fox & Friends" on Tuesday.

"Only under Donald Trump have we gotten these transcripts either released or leaked. And I would love to know what did Barack Obama say to the Iranians? What did he say to the Russians?" Goodwin continued. "I suspect a lot of these calls have innocuous chatter because you have two leaders, each with their own domestic politics issues."

"It very much begins to feel like 2016 all over again," he said in the interview. "You had the CIA, the FBI spying on the Trump campaign. Now you have a CIA officer within the White House gathering information, going to Democrats in Congress with... Democrat-connected lawyers. And shaping this in a way that sounds as though it's almost written by 'The New York Times,' for 'The New York Times.'

"The walls in the White House have ears," Goodwin added. "Whatever he says, somebody is listening to, and that's proper with a president. But these are people who are out to get him in many cases... There has been a movement against this president by law enforcement, by the CIA, John Brennan, James Clapper [and James] Comey."

I love the push-back.

I would love to see some from the Republicans.

It proves the hypocrisy of the Left. It also reminds everyone that it will happen to their guy. Democrats are establishing new precedents that they regret. Be careful what you wish for.

Obama won in 2012 and told Russia he’d be flexible after the election. What did he communicate to Russia by phone or other channels? We need full transcripts.

The commie media will say “How dare he want to harass Barack Obama, he’s so pure and beautiful, we miss him so much!”

Hussein was just a figurehead. It's the phone calls from his staffers that mattered.

The Biden fire my son's prosecutor” incident shows that.

I always wondered why he was so confident about winning. Could it be the two frauds Romney and Ryan fixed it for him? Naaah.

I would bet good money that one of those calls Obama made was around 2014, when he and Putin agreed that Putin could take over Crimea and Obama would just look the other way, expecting other favors in the future.

OK, NSA. That’s your queue to pony up the transcripts. Hand ‘em over.

No it won't happen to "their" guy. This type of thinking is based on the false belief that there are actually two sides in Government. There is not. The two sides are the government and the people, just like our founders knew so well and were so cautious about. President Trump is an anomaly.

At this point in time, President Trump’s commutations with heads of state are protected by Executive Privilege and the 4th Amendment. However, Obama and Clinton communications are not.

Can Lindsey Graham issue a subpoena to the White house for those transcripts?

No, I disagree. Republicans will never go for the throat and have the courage to investigate and prosecute Dems. In addition, Dems have far too many deep state employees in DOJ, State Dept, CIA, NSA and they will never take down one of their own. Then you have NYT and news media who leak and spin and protect the Dems and other criminals and liars.

Republicans like Romney and many others stab our party in the back. Dems stand together no matter what crimes or corruption they have committed.
