Report: Democrats Privately Urging Pelosi to Hold Impeachment Inquiry Vote
Breitbart ^ | 11 Oct 2019 | Edwin Mora

Some House Democrats are privately calling on Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to hold a vote to formalize the impeachment inquiry to undermine Republican criticism that the process is illegitimate, Politico reported this week. So far, Pelosi has refused to schedule a vote, arguing that the Constitution and House rules do not require the lawmakers to do so.

Meanwhile, the White House and its Republican congressional allies contend that such a vote is necessary to legitimize the inquiry per the recognized standards of previous impeachment efforts.

Politico reported:

Some Democratic lawmakers and aides have begun to say privately — and, to a lesser extent, publicly — that the House should just vote to formalize the inquiry, robbing the GOP of its main talking point.

Though a small but growing chorus of Democrats has started urging a vote simply to undercut this GOP talking point, others say that nothing will stop Trump and his supporters from claiming Democrats’ efforts are unfair and inconsistent with past impeachment procedures. They say the party shouldn’t take the White House’s bait, arguing that the president’s defenders will simply find other reasons to not comply with the inquiry.

The “private” debate on whether or not to hold a vote “is threatening to cleave Democrats’ unified front” in favor of impeachment, the news outlet added.

Rep. John Yarmuth (D-KY) publicly called for a vote, telling Politico,“If Nancy asked me, I would say sure, let’s have a vote. Everybody’s on record, so they’re not going to vote any differently. What’s the danger in having a vote to formalize it?”

House lawmakers voted to allow an investigation into whether to impeach President Bill Clinton and President Richard Nixon. Republicans have pointed to those votes as evidence that Democrats are acting in an unfair and illegitimate manner.

Nancy really does not want a vote (imho) because she is still looking for a way to walk this circus back into the tent.

Of course at this point the wild animals have pooped all over the street....so the mess is kinda public.

First they called for Impeachment before Trump was sworn in. Now after almost three years since the election, they are finally at “inquiry”. This is the result of the Pelosi team for three years. Nothing done, just “We got him now, er, how about now, wait, how about now, Um, maybe now?”

Give her some credit, she is smart enough to know when the roll is taken, those who vote for it to go forward are dead meat in an election because it is a house of cards. I can see the first article: I have this whistleblower, or is that blower's, report that Trump did a quid pro quo. First comment, what is the best evidence of that, the complaint or the reminisces of Joey's staffer about what was said. Ah, well, boing....denied. Moving along. I have this second article, says President impeded the Russian Hoax, er I mean inquiry. First question, when did denying that something happened constitute obstruction....boing, moving along et al. At the end of the day, NADA.

Even if she does, and it passes, she will just change House Rules and past precedent and still not allow Republicans on those committees to play

Schitt is running the show now, and will ultimately be the reason this will all backfire on them

(I wonder how many Sunday shows he’s booked for tomorrow so he can be the one to tell (lie to) us what went on yesterday behind closed doors)

The sooner we get it over with the better. Dems will pass zero legislation from here to Nov 2020, which is a good thing. And open up a can of worms when the Senate Repubs run the trial.

+++++
Pelosi is actually correct on this point. There is no requirement for a vote to initiate an investigation leading to an impeachment vote.

But if Pelosi gives in and holds the vote it will be a big plus for Trump and the Republicans. They will be able to cross examine witnesses, subpoena their own witness and have legal council.

Pelosi doesn’t want that. So we are in yet another PR battle to force her hand. It might be starting to work.

The Dems don’t want a vote now because they want to set the narrative while the doormat GOP Senate does nothing. And of course drag this out until November 2020.

Her problem is that she knows many democrats are guilty of a lot of things and President Trump wot be shy about bringing that up by calling witnesses.

“arguing that the president’s defenders will simply find other reasons to not comply with the inquiry.”

Indeed. That’s the rules. That’s playing the game.

You don’t play a game by simply declaring victory, then whining when the opponent insists on actually playing by the rules.

Before this started the Republicans were trying to figure out a way to cave on gun control.

Who knows what else they might have caved on...

We want this impeachment craziness to keep the Democrats screaming and waving their arms _forever_.

This is the result of the Pelosi team for three years.

****************

This is also the result of pathetic Republican weakness over the past few decades. Time and again they have refused to stand up to Democrat bullying tactics. So naturally the Dems keep upping the ante since there is never any real resistance from the Republican Retreaters.

And now the country is suffering through this extremism because the Democrats never have anything to fear. Not push back, no blockage, no retaliation, no nothing from the Pubbies.

If you were a Dem would you have any respect for the GOP? Expect things to get even worse.

I call them the Republican Retreaters. Its what they do. It who they are.

Caving is the only thing they can be consistently counted on to do. As long as they are “our” party nothing will change.
