Unfortunately, some of the black reps we have had in the past-—Sen. Brooke in MA, Cong. Will Hurd-—were libs. The last real conservative black congressman we had was Allen West.
No, no. I’m not talking about federal-level members (which are technically easier to elect), I’m talking about members at the legislative level. If the GOP doesn’t put in the effort in districts with large levels of Black voters to elect Black Republicans, it’s going to be hard to make a breakthrough beyond that small percentage (10%) except in unusual circumstances.
When you have an all-White GOP caucus in Baton Rouge, it’s going to be hard for Black voters to see the GOP as anything other than the “White People Party.”
