After a Harris County Sheriffs Office deputy invited a man to slap him in the face, the lawman returned the slap with enough force to knock the older man to the ground, prosecutors said.
Now that deputy, Ellison Collins, faces a charge of assault in the September 2018 incident. A Harris County grand jury indicted the deputy on Tuesday, the district attorneys office said.
The incident occurred outside of an IHOP when Collins, 39, encountered the man in the parking lot. Collins invited 61-year-old Jerry Allen Vaco to slap him in the face and after Vaco did, Collins returned the slap, the office said. The force knocked the man to the ground.

“Some bait should neither be taken nor offered.”

I dunno. The old guy just won the lottery.
As for Deputy Dawg => Act in haste, repent at leisure.
“The cop is not going to prison, probably not even short county jail time.”
>>>>>>>>>>>
I wouldn’t bet against you, but at least he’ll be thinking about between now and the end of the process.
Still, this is Houston’s county. The raid in which 2 innocents were murdered by HPD is still fresh in people’s minds.
That was a bad shoot to say the least. Jesus that was effed up.
I got four dogs for a doorbell, jeez louise. Utter chaos.
arse holes.....
Yep - back in the late ‘60s, a few of us were walking the neighborhood and a pair of cops in a cruiser stopped us to question about some vandalism at a local school 9we hadn’t done it).
When we told him we just liked to walk and chew the fat, one cop asked if he looked stupid...I replied, “Yes sir”.
His face went purple and his partner laughed his ass off while physically restraining him.
That’s as far as I would go to take the bait - never accept an invite to slap a cop...if he offers, he wants to do you harm.
He seemed to be an old old 61.
Sixty-one is the new Sixty-two.
You are a sick ****.
No one should be tortured.
The cop was mean, and he was wrong and he will face the law.
But you and your fantasies are sick.
And battery.
No, he's not.
Texas law caps monetary damages against gov't agencies at 100K.
After lawyers get their 40%, he'll be able to pay whatever hospital bills he may have had.
But that's about it.
Slapping??? Did they pull each others hair too?
I must be the only one. The cop should go to jail? The 61-year-old should retire a millionaire? Baloney. These two should be forced to shake hands and apologize to one another. Period.
End of story.
my drunk teenage inner self says (from memory) “NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER HIT A COP (AGAIN)... ANY TIME, ANY REASON.”
The only time I would ever waive that rule is if I were protecting my family, and then I would use deadly force.... and expect to die for doing so.
There is stupid.... and then there is REALLY stupid.
Those are not fantasies. The arian brotherhood, the cryps, the bloods, ms13, etc are going to beat sodomize and eventually kill that cop if he is in general population. That is a fact. They are going to have to hold him in solitary. That is also a fact. He committed assault under color of law which increases the act’s heinousness by orders of magnitude. Also a fact. He showed himself unworthy of compassion in abusing an elder, to me a major crossing of lines. A mix of fact and opinion and not a fantasy.
Point out my sick fantasy please. There are no puppies nor butterflies in prison.
The transcript and video read and look exactly like how grade school bullies gang up on and torment a victim.
Real tough guys that egg each other on into maltreating their latest target. On their own they are considerably more polite, but in their little group they each show another personality altogether.
Either one of the other two deputies could have and should have de-escalated the situation. If there was a reason to detain Vaco, then why was he still smoking? Why was Collins so abrasive and combative?
Grade-school toughs wearing badges. Yeah, really respectable, professional behavior. Perhaps you think all three should be given a promotion and a bonus?
That video is a perfect example of mob mentality and what is wrong with many police agencies today. Somehow we, the public they are supposed to “serve and protect” are considered their enemy.
This self-segregation has to change, or it could get very unpleasant for everyone.
Agree, the slapping is not remotely as egregious as say Rand Paul’s jagoff neighbor and what he did to Senator Paul. Maybe the cop gets fired, but jail? Is he a repeat offender?
This happened over a year ago, and it hasn’t been adjudicated? Something’s very fishy about that imo.
To me it looks like the DA (in cahoots with the city attorney) was hoping this would blow over, so the case wasn’t presented to a grand jury until someone started making noise. There is no way this investigation could possibly have taken a year.
