PRINCE ANDREW was pulled out from his first official engagement since the car crash Newsnight interview on Saturday and attended yesterday a crisis summit at Buckingham Palace, a royal source said.
The Duke of York was scheduled to visit flood-hit South Yorkshire yesterday, where he would have witnessed the Army operations and a clear-up in Stainforth and Fishlake. But he was terrified of becoming the target of the publics mockery, according to unnamed friends of Prince Andrew who spoke to The Sun, and his engagement was eventually cancelled.
Instead of heading to South Yorkshire, Andrew left his Windsor home, the Royal Lodge, to travel to Buckingham Palace for a crisis summit, one royal source said, where royals likely discussed the biggest royal crisis in a generation.
The source claimed the interview with Emily Maitlis aired on Saturday evening is having an impact on the Dukes ability to work.
They told The Sun: Prince Andrew and the Royal Household have been insistent the current controversy will not impact his work or public role.
But to cancel a visit to the flood region is a sign of just how damaging this how now become for him.
Its hard to see how he could possibly do his work in this climate.
The source continued, revealing Andrew was surprised to discover how bad things are.
They continued: This has become the biggest royal crisis in a generation and its hard to see it going away any time soon.
He was at Buckingham Palace for some sort of crisis summit yesterday.
Its dawned on him just how bad things are.
One local source told The Sun they were told the presence of Prince Andrew, following the visits of many political figures, wasnt thought necessary.
However, the local voiced their opinion over the possible reason behind the Dukes absence.
They said: The Duke was due to come but we have been told he cant make it, partly because so many politicians have been here and it wasnt thought necessary.
However, you do wonder whether its due to all the publicity and you can kind of understand it.
There were serious concerns he could be jeered or booed, which would make things even worse.
This comes as the Duke of York is seeing partners of his entrepreneurship scheme, Pitch@Palace, dropping their collaborations with him due to the bad publicity that came from his interview focused on his relationship with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein and allegations he had sex with Virginia Roberts, who said she had been trafficked to Andrew on three different occasions.
In it, Prince Andrew said he didnt regret the friendship with Epstein and, as he said he had no recollection of meeting Ms Roberts, the Duke failed to clearly show sympathy for the convicted sex offenders victims.
Earlier this week, Buckingham Palace confirmed accountancy giant KPMG is no longer supporting the scheme.
Standard Chartered is also ending its sponsorship at the end of the year, a spokesman for the financial services company said.
The Dukes Pitch@Palace could lose other partners, with pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca saying it is reviewing its involvement.
A spokesman for the company said: Our three-year partnership with Pitch@Palace is due to expire at the end of this year and is currently being reviewed.
Some of Prince Andrews patronages are also reviewing their relationship with the Duke.
Outward Bound, a charity Prince Andrew became the patron of in March, when he replaced Prince Philip, said the Board of Trustees will discuss the Dukes patronage.
His eldest daughter Princess Beatrice, who is also on the Board, will be asked to sit out of the meeting.
The decision to go ahead with the 45-minute interview is said to have shocked even Sarah Ferguson, the Dukes former wife.
Friends close to the Duchess of York said Sarah, also known as Fergie, had nothing to do with the interview, and discovered Andrew went on with it only upon returning to the UK from a journey that took her to China, Saudi Arabia and Italy.
Fergie is also believed to have branded the interview a car crash.
Yeah, yeah. We heard. Some middle eastern billionaire bought Epstein Didn’t Kill Himself Island so bonnie Prince Andrew’s weekends are back on.

He better watch it. He might have a car accident.
I tried to pretend to care even a tiny bit about all those inbreds but then I decided I didn’t care at all.
Just so I understand, am I to understand that the “crisis” to be addressed is possible booing or awkwardness during a public appearance. Not anything to do with a royal family member participating in the sex trafficking of minors?
is having an impact on the Dukes ability to work.
I think the Royals and I have differing definitions of the word work.

It is a large family. Princess Margaret was an attractive woman in her days.
Prince Andrew said he didnt regret the friendship with Epstein...
Sounds like a stand up guy :)
His patronages are dropping him right and left, so his work for the Firm is being curtailed by the public since Mummy won’t do it. It has finally gotten bad enough for Liz to pull her head out of the sand. She will probably give him a new decoration or medal before long.
Not an attractive bunch are they?
Too bad Henry VIII closed the monasteries. Sending him to one for two or three years would have been an option. Either that or he can go live in Nova Scotia.
Send him to live in the Falklands, scene of his one moment of glory.
Its hard to see how he could possibly do his work in this climate.
They marry attractive people.
George V was second cousin to his wife. Elizabeth second cousin once removed and third cousin to Philip. Charles very distantly related to Diana, any two English people likely to be that related.
Younger royals marrying out.
No state bans second cousin marriage and it is not dangerous unless much repeated. Which, granted, many European royals did.
Andrew was an idiot for doing the interview and putting himself in the spotlight. If he was hoping people would somehow forgive & forget, he needed to just hide out, stay in the shadows for a year or more & then slowly continue his duties.
Thanx for the family tree. You don’t hear much about Prince Edward.
“Just so I understand, am I to understand that the crisis to be addressed is possible booing or awkwardness....”
Really. It took the article 8-9 paragraphs to finally even hint at the possibility that it might possibly be Andy’s relationship with Jeffy. It was all “crisis” this or “crisis” that until then. The Brits need to learn how to write an article.
Maybe he can do a King Edward, and then move to Queens with Frank and Estelle Costanza.
