On the one hand, of course, there is Mr. Trump, who set up camp in the deep corners of the American psyche three years ago and has remained there ever since, a larger-than-life-presence for supporters and detractors alike, the invisible guest whose existence can ruin a holiday meal as quickly as your cousin can utter the word “Ukraine.”

It is as though, using some sort of mental eminent domain, the Progs have forced the him into the brains of their ilk. Or maybe Trump, master of 4D chess, did it himself. The guys is a permanent resident in their heads– a boogeyman tormenting them– rent-free!

It's unbelievable– they've created a monster, the very thought of which is consuming them.

Are any university psychology programs studying this?

Projection. Sure it is “overused” to the point of meaningless but as I trudged through Freud because I had to to get my BA, but I do believe projection is what you are after. I have mixed thoughts on Freud so I never took him too seriously. That said, if you think about it “underhanded” people or people who have a proclivity to underhandedness are going to see signs everywhere they look that someone else is trying to gain advantage on them in the exact same way they are attempting to gain advantage on others. An extortionist sees extortion everywhere he looks, an adulterer sees adultery everywhere he looks. The worst thing that could happen to them is to be taken advantage of in the same way the are taking advantage of others.

They did it to themselves.

And that's just the imaginary monster. The real monster is when those upon whom they inflict their psychoses decide enough is enough.

".... Are any university psychology programs studying this?...."

Actually, the phenomenon is not new. It is called mass hysteria or epidemic hysteria or mass psychogenic illness or behavior.

It is defined as a synchronous, simultaneous appearance among a large group of people, who exhibit similar or identical physical or emotional symptoms, such as anxiety or extreme excitement or emotional distress.

It is a socially contagious frenzy of irrational behavior in a group of people as a reaction to an event, such as Trump being elected president instead of Hillary.

Not that rare, as it turns out, mass hysteria has been observed and documented frequently over the ages, dating as far back as the 14th century. One famous example is the Salem Witch Trials in Massachusetts between 1692 and 1693.

Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) is just the latest incantation of this phenomenon, apparently affecting only those with established mentally illness and membership in the democRAT political party. 🤪
