U.S. Women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe announced her support for Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D-MA) presidential campaign in a video posted Friday to social media.
“I truly believe the best things in life are a result of being bold and being real. This extends to every part of my life and nothing feels more relevant and real than this election,” Rapinoe wrote in a caption shared to her Instagram account. “I’m proud to endorse @elizabethwarren today, for being bold, for being real, for listening to ALL of us, and for being prepared to navigate the unique challenges we face today as a country.”

There is something very fitting about this “endorsement”. First of all, Elizabeth Warren has about the same chances as a snowball in Hell of even gaining the nomination for the Presidency of the US on the Democrat ticket. But should Hell somehow freeze over, then there is an even bigger obstacle on the road to the White House and the Oval Office, the fact that Donald J. Trump has given every intention that he expects to run again in 2020, and considering the record he has to run on, the cards seem to be stacked against ANY challenger. This is not Jimmy Carter in 1980, nor is it George H.W. Bush in 1992, both of whom allowed the possibility of re-election to slip away from themselves.
The reality is, despite the declamations that Trump has failed in some manner or another, he is in a stronger position in 2020 than Ronald Reagan was in 1984, and Reagan won overwhelmingly that fall.
Megan Rapinoe may have chosen to back the wrong horse.
