This is not a warning, this is a threat.
And he'd threatening Iran directly and specifically.
Our folks over there are under pressure.
“Warfighters”. Damn, I like the sound of that.
So what, exactly, did the President & Prime Minister of Iraq do?
Looks like a big fat zero to me.
People on FR are attacking Trump for this, and I dont know why. Hes absolutely right, we didnt start this, but we certainly cant let Iran get away with it. Theyre not dealing with a subservient leftist Islamist anymore.
Obamass billion dollars wheeled in on a pallet bought them a lot of weapons and now Trump has to deal with it.
Some of us aint buying that nonsense.
Mr. Trump better be ready to back that talk up. The whole world is watching. I hope he does smash them good.
The embassy is being reinforced, as it will remain a likely target for retaliation, while operations continue. Iraqi society in the Shi’ite areas has been up in arms against Iranian influence in Iraq over the last few months, with widespread demonstrations, hundreds killed, a major Iranian consulate burned in Karbala, and the Prime Minister of Iraq resigning.
Iran’s surrogates attacking Americans in Iraq with rockets (which caused us to respond with the airstrikes, which today’s embassy demonstration was protesting against), was within the background of these many assaults taking place on Iranian power and influence in Iraq. They may suspect that the USA is behind some of this, or that anti-US actions might bolster their appeal with Iraqis.
In any event, pressures will continue to mount on the Iranian regime, as their economy and finances head over the cliff, so the worst is likely still to come.
No one was killed or injured today, so a non lethal round of crushing economic sanctions might be an appropriate response. It is is not the response the mullahs want, and it has really been hurting them.
One USMC rifle squad was probably more than enough to defend the embassy against these slimeball cowards, but 100 of em, armed to the teeth and on full alert pretty much guarantees there’ll be no Odongo/PIAPS-type “Benghazi event” taking place there. Instead of threatening Iran, just do it. “When you gotta shoot, shoot”. Don’t talk.
I hope he means some other way that they will pay than war.
He seems to indicate that here:

Trump: I wanna have peace, I like peace.
War-fighting Marine Ping!
Obama seems to want war with Iran. These wars simply weaken the United States and so play right into the Democrats hands.
If they are thinking another Iran hostage event, they are sadly mistaken.
We have a president with manhood for a change.
Yup, A10s and Apaches circling would be an effective deterrent.
Some of these folks may be on the receiving end of the Blades of Death in the near future:
Abu Mahdi al Muhandis, head of Kata’ib Hezbollah and Deputy Chairman of the Popular Mobilization Committee that oversees the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF).
Qays al-Khazali, a militant who fought against the U.S.-led occupation of Iraq and was detained by coalition forces between 2007 and 2010.
Hadi al Amari, head of the Badr Brigades, another Iranian-backed militia group that is now part of the PMF.
Faleh al-Fayyad, Chairman of the Popular Mobilization Committee and founder of the Ataa Movement political party.
for the uninformed: Blades of Death=hellfire missile with no explosive warhead, just steel blades that expand on target, usually vehicles.
Dear God,
Thank you for this most excellent potus. I love him.
Yeah, just like Trump—under pressure from the Deep State.
Endless war 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014 ...
USMC is Chinooks?? The Osprey pilots are gonna be shocked.
Unless the US Army was air logistics, the USMC flies a similar but smaller twin rotor helicopter.
The minority shi’ites hold power in Iraq. Iran is majority shi’ite and so it is in their interest that the Iraq minority in power remains in power.
Iran wrongfully continues to use militias within Iraq to help the shi’ite minority in Iraq to stay in power.
Obama co-operated with Iran shi’ites in Iraq, although not openly.
Is this analysis correct?
President Trump is not going to put up with Iran’s surreptitious control of Iraq? (if so, POTUS is right as usual!)
The answer: These are all Moslems, Sunni and Shi’ite. We will never solve their internal disputes for them nor should we try to.
A by product of the above is that we cannot and SHOULD NOT TRY TO impose democracy in Iraq or in Iran. Both countries are Islamist and there is no real border between the two; they are actually just territories trying to maintain Shi’ite or Sunni control. Their primary focus is sharia law, not democracy , so our attempts are futile and make the situation worse. The U.S. need to get out!!
Short term - of course we must protect our embassy with marines. Then I hope POTUS will withdraw from all of it and let the Moslems sort themselves out. Because we are now energy independent, this is actually do-able.
P.S. CAPS are for emphasis only, not meant to shout.
