But as long as we are there, we must protect the embassy.

What exactly did a mob of several thousand Iraqis need from Iran in order to storm the U.S. embassy?

Blaming Iran for this is a clever way of obscuring the fact that the U.S. has a serious problem with IRAQ right now.

First and foremost, “protecting the embassy” means mowing down any crowd of hostile actors that are storming it. If the U.S. wasn’t even willing to do that, then it’s kind of hard to take any of these threats against Iran seriously.
