What is the US logic to the strike on Iran's Qasem Soleimani? (CNN "Analysis)
CNN ^ | 3 January 2020 | Nick Paton Walsh

Posted on 01/03/2020 5:04:04 AM PST by drop 50 and fire for effect

The US drone strike on Qasem Soleimani, the head of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force unit, may have been a "target of opportunity" but it clearly had presidential authorization for longer than just last night. The US wants to send the signal that this is deliberate. But it is escalatory and brings the region to a new brink of chaos.

This is an interesting CNN "analysis" (opinion) piece. Mr. Walsh thinks that this is "escalatory."

Iran has fomented attacks upon U.S. and Israeli targets globally since 1979, and most recently engineered attacks upon a Saudi oil refinery, a U.S. base, and clearly directed the recent attack upon the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.

Soleimani has been the mullah's point man for external trouble-making for about 20 years and the U.S. has been after this guy for almost as long. He directed Iranian interference in Iraq, which prolonged that war and killed thousands of Iraqis and hundreds of Americans. How can anyone be surprised that we killed him as soon as we acquired actionable intelligence?

Ask an Iraqi vet who was injured by an IED. Those bombs were created by the Iranians in many cases. And stop calling the Cuds force “elite”.
They are nothing more than bomb throwing terrorists!

I think the message is loud and clear, “Don’t f**k with US Embassies on Trump’s watch.”

Was Soleimani attacking the embassy “escalatory?” THAT was an act of war against a sovereign state. Killing Soleimani was a legal strike against a terrorist in his enemy’s country.

He made the decision to leave Iran and go to Iraq to stir up trouble against The United States.

He had a history of violence.

Don’t mess around and strike the head of the snake. Something we have not done since Reagan but should do. This messing around hitting at the edges to purposely extend these wars for profit is BS.

To all the worms on the left who are condemning the extermination of one bearded worm, perch on this: (poster shows uplifted third finger with sneering expression).

iran is a state sponsor of terrorism. The democrat party loves them more than they love us.

Another message is that we CAN “do a damn thing.” Do the ayatollahs want to escalate further?

What is the logic to CNN even being on the air except to root for the enemy and spew propaganda.

President Trump had a responsibility to protect American lives.

I use the phrase “responsibility to protect” because that is what George Soros came up with and told Obama and Hillary to spout when they used the military of The United States against the leader of Libya.

And Qadaffi didn’t get a quick death. They had him tortured by shoving a bayonet up his behind.

The Democrats and Soros are scared that a large source of funds for them, Iran, just might dry up.

It took more than actionable intelligence. We now have a president who has the balls to go after him. That's something we lacked during the eight dark years of Mullah Obama.

I really hate it when any source refers to JERUSALEM as Al Quds. Yes, I know that Quds is the only reference, but it raises my hackles when JERUSALEM is debased.

On cue, here is CNN taking Iran’s side in a subtle way. One question: What was Soleimani doing in Bagdad (let alone Iraq) anyway? He was there to cause trouble, no doubt.

I somewhat disagree with this point, the IGRC-Quds Force are undeniably evil, but they are also a well-trained and capable hostile special operations force. Soleimani was dangerous because he was a good leader who got his hands dirty, led from the front, and gained the respect and loyalty of his people. He also deliberately targeted innocent civilians, and led Iran's malign interference across the mid-east.

We killed him because he was very good at his job, and killed a lot of American troops and innocents. I was on the receiving end of his ordnance a few years back and slept better last night knowing he is dead.

That is all they do. They take the opposite side of everything good conservatives do.

If 0bama had done this, they’d be saying this was a wonderful thing and it proved 0bama had “chops.”

The entire exec and management staff at CNN is already looking at treason charges so doubling down doesn’t really change their equation.

Trump also sent a message to the anti-Trump, neocon war hawks. “Shut up and sit down. I got this.”

In any war of escalation, the US wins. We have all the power. The only way we lose is if we tie our hands behind our back and refuse to escalate. President Trump has shown that he isn’t playing by the old rules. Iran needs to be afraid.
