First death confirmed outside of virus epicenter
A patient died in the province of Hebei more than 600 miles north of the city where the outbreak began after contracting the new coronavirus, the provincial authorities announced on Thursday. It was the first confirmed death outside of the viruss epicenter.
The victim was an 80-year-old man who had lived in the city of Wuhan, where the outbreak originated, for more than two months, according to Hebeis provincial health department. Statistics are already making this less of a concern than it could have been.
There were about 450 cases reported as of a day or so ago, and only 17 deaths. Here in this case, the subject is 80 years old.
Young children and the elderly are the usual populace demographic at the most risk.
It will be interesting to see how the statistics morph over the next week or so.
If the death rate combs significantly percentage wise, and people in their late teens to mid 50s start dying in significant numbers, then look out.
Looks like you will have busy pinging duty for awhile.
Yep.
I don’t like when they use words like evolving.
Here they using it to address the situation. It can also be used to address the virus itself, and that’s why I don’t like it’s use here.
Mutating viruses are hard to combat.
Evolving situations, aren’t necessarily so. There will be a progression to this. That’s natural. Updating an ongoing situation would be a better way to address it > IMO.
For the newsies it's either this or the impeachment, and the customers have had quite enough of impeachment news thankyouverymuch...
Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
Provided the statistics provided by the Chicom government are close to accurate.
I agree.
The spreading infection will speak for itself.
As it spreads in other nations, China’s reports will either make sense or reveal them to have been covering up.
I’m going to call out Monday with a case of Corona virus.
If there has to be an apocalypse...
why does it have to be a bug, or the flu, or SARS, or Ebola?
Or even the zombie apocalyse?
Why couldn’t it either be the Slutpocalypse or the Succubi-polcalypse.
Couldn’t we go out with a smile on our face instead of choking on our own mucous?
Yes, with slutpocalypse you get to choke on someone elses mucus
Did you hear about the guy with herpes in his eyebrows?
He was looking for love in all the wrong places.
Thanks, Nully. Quite a thing.
