Britain is reclaiming its agency as a self-governing nation. Its example will reverberate throughout Europe. . .
Its easy to point and laugh at such an extravagant statement, but Tusk was verbalizing the incredible challenge Brexit presents to a certain kind of European mind, a mind conditioned to the idea that democracy inheres not in popular sovereignty democratic peoples governing themselves but in the elite administration of human rights, insulated from democratic passions and prejudices
It is this worldview that has shaped the construction of the European Union. The EU is governed by an unelected Commission and an unelected Court, both joined to an elected Parliament with no real legislative power. Can you impeach a European commissioner? Can you vote for one? Or vote to remove one? No, non, nein!

Like the US a number of years earlier, the UK has chosen "no taxation without (real) representation".
Enjoy
Will England now have its own Independence Day celebrations every year?
Still subjects, not citizens. A long way to go.
Britain has broken away from her German master, but now the EU is even more under the rule of the German/French axis. Germany will do her best to make an example of Britain, to demonstrate that leaving is fraught with peril. If Britain does better outside of the union over the next few years, there will be more members telling the krauts to piss off. Will Italy be next to declare independence?
Yup. I wonder what happens when the Queen goes. When the Old Girl leaves the building I think in time the British Monarchy will fade away.
EU getting ready to go full Nazi. UK got out just in time. Hope Italy gets out too.
I believe that the UK holds a very strong hand when it comes to economics and trade. First, the US with President Trump in the lead will probably work tirelessly to create a very favorable trade deal. I also suspect that many of the Commonwealth countries will likewise be happy to see the return of the prodigal son.
The UK is an enormous market with money to spend and the EU exporters need that more than the UK needs to sell stuff to the EU.
Add this to the internal pressures in the EU (the poor south against the rich north that hold the levers of power) and eternal battle between France and Germany (both with weak leaders and citizens unhappy with how things are going) and the next few years should be very interesting.
Just my 2¢
Will Italy be next to declare independence?
Not if the Pope has his way
Despite the hoopla, has Brexit really happened yet? They haven’t decided the terms yet, do almost all of it could be walked back.
I’m still waiting for the former Eastern Block nations to leave over the refugees that the EU is trying to force them to take.
Charles can't fill her shoes. Not by a long shot.
He's always been a lightweight, goofy, and a pantywaist.
His father, Prince Phillip, sent him to a boys school in Scotland that Phillip himself attended as a boy. The school and his classmates had a profound effect on him. He learned teamwork, the value of physical labor, camaraderie, and much more.
Charles almost fell apart, and begged to come home.
Don’t let this National Review jerk fool anyone, he was showing just this sort of elitist snivel when railing against Trump:

In fact, he was made Guardian (Head Boy) of the School in his final year.
Yes, the Prince of Wales found Gordonstoun hard to begin with, and might well have been better off if he'd been sent to a school like Eton.
But he grew into a man at Gordonstoun. And he did very well there in the end. This is not a school that handed out its most responsible and prestigious to a boy who hadn't earned it.
A real pantywaist - flying helicopters full of commandos on and off HMS Hermes is a job they give to people like that.
He wasn't a brilliant Naval officer, and it wasn't a career I think he would have chosen - which to me makes the fact he did it, because it was his duty even more impressive.
Can he fill the Queen's shoes? No, I don't think so - she's been one of the greatest monarchs in Britain's history, and even with the best of luck and health, he'll only be King for a relatively short time.
But I think a lot of people don't understand what he's really like. He'll do his duty and he'll do it well. He has all his life. He didn't choose his role - but he's accepted it.
Fair post. Thanks.
The Prince of Whales(sic) is no exception.
The monarchy is an anachronism that serves only the shadows of affluent international intrigue, vice, and laundering money.
The Prince of Whales (sic) is no exception.
Do not know what happened to the HTML text.
“We few, we happy few, we band of brothers”!
This time around in their long history it seems that BOJO is leading the charge. Oh, and let’s not forget Nigel who spent the last 27 or so years working for this outcome.
