Top Republicans on two key House committees on Thursday condemned the company that built the smartphone app used by the Iowa Democratic Party (IDP) to tabulate votes during the Iowa caucuses.
Reps. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) and Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), the top Republicans on the House Administration and Homeland Security Committees, the two House committees with jurisdiction over election security, sent a letter to Shadow CEO Gerard Niemira expressing “grave concern” over the app his company built.
"In order for democracy to work, Americans must believe the results of their elections, and caucuses, are rock-solid and secure beyond a shadow of a doubt,” Davis and Rogers wrote. “Unfortunately, by choosing not to test your app for any technical glitches prior to its roll-out, your company has caused significant doubt over the Caucus results and, consequently, has undermined electoral confidence."
The House Republicans pointed to comments made by Acting Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Chad Wolf earlier this week that the IDP turned down offers by DHS’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency to test the app, along with reports that a top tech official at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) urged the IDP not to use the Shadow app.

They tested it and it worked perfectly. Bernie Sanders got screwed and nobody takes Iowa seriously any more.
Coverup! We know damn well Republicans are responsible for the DEM caucus failures in Iowa.
The app worked in tests.
They messed up the count trying to scratch out the results they wanted and couldn't remember-or figure out-how to put the results back so that they looked OK.
Tell Bernie to bend over, the DNC will drive.

The app was crap! Here is a summary of some of the technical analysis that’s been done thus far by software researchers:
Clinton hacks who have never created anything similar used their connections to force a untested, unproven piece of garbage onto a customer who didn’t really want it in the first place.
And we all know what a technology expert Hillary and her staff were/are!
Some precinct chairs used the app several days ahead of time and complained to the state party that it did not work properly. They were ignored.
Many chairs admitted they didn’t even download the app until shortly before the caucus.
THEN AND NOW-——THE IOWA CAUCUS DEBACLE UP-CLOSE:
LAST FALL, Iowa’s Republican and Democratic Parties and their app and web development vendors partnered with (cough) Harvard’s “Defending Digital Democracy Project” to develop strategies and systems to protect results and deal with misinformation.
The Harvard group included party “campaign experts” Robby Mook and Matt Rhodes, and experts in (A) cybersecurity, (B) national security, (C) technology and (D) election administration.
Fortuitously, the group simulated different ways “things could go wrong” on caucus night. (cue maniacal laugh machine here).
Mook is 2016 campaign manager for Hillary Clinton, and Rhodes is Mitt Romney’s 2012 campaign manager.
Out of sheer public-spiritededness, these two helped develop a video to alert campaigns to warning signs of hacking and misinformation.
THAT WAS THEN-— THIS IS NOW-—WHAT THE IOWA DEMOCRAT PARTY IS SAYING IN THE AFTERMATH OF THE DEBACLE
“The app the Iowa Democratic Party commissioned to tabulate and report results from the caucuses on Monday was not properly tested, people briefed on the app by the state party told newspapers. It was quickly put together in just the past two months , said the people, who asked to remain anonymous because they were not authorized to speak publicly.”
Plus the state party decided to use the app only after another proposal for reporting votes — which entailed caucus participants phoning in their votes — was abandoned, on the advice of DNC officials, according to David Jefferson, a board member of Verified Voting, a nonpartisan election integrity organization.
Why did they even need an app? It’s not like there were millions of people voting. What’s wrong with paper ballots dropped into a ballot box?
Who would buy election software from a company called Shadow, Inc., anyway?
Yep.. and now they will go about implementing the same system into our national voting process.
Today, it’s Bernie.
Tomorrow, it’s anyone on the “R” ticket.
This is just a practice run.
It worked just the way Hillary wanted it to. She probably paid for it. Sounds like Rush’s “Operation Chaos” for her Democratic opponents...Look out Bernie, she is doing it again.
I don’t mean that the app worked perfectly in a technical sense, unless its goal was to cloud things up the results and throw Bernie off his game. Then it worked perfectly.
