Nonsense. A certain percentage will do anything they are told. The rest follow their oath. I served in the early ‘70’s. They had a survey and asked the very question if you would fire on American citizens if ordered. At that time it was about 10% said yes. I would guess it would be higher these days but probably not as high as 30%.
Officers were fragged for giving orders that would result in stupid high casualties. ( Or so I heard) Soldiers are individual thinkers as well as a group trained as a team.
