Yes. Any belief that doesn't exalt the government over all is persecuted.

I've followed the Chinese church for over twenty years and they are highly organized, but secretive. Their goal isn't the overthrow of the government, but the conversion of people to Christianity. Some unofficial sources within the church list their numbers at over one hundred million.
