I grew up as a western PA yinzer. When I went to Gettysburg College, about 150 miles to the east, some of my fellow students were fascinated by my accent, thought I was an exchange student and wanted to know what country I was from.

After 10 years in the Army, with people from all over, my accent flattened out and I began to use "Yinz" and "Y'all" interchangeably. Having lived in the deep south for the last 20 years, I lean toward, "Y'all," but when I get back to PA, I find myself subconsciously slipping back to "Yinz."
