The local Republican Party had their Lincoln Day Dinner last evening. They provided hand sanitizer, had fewer people per table and requested no physical contact.

Earlier I speculated that had something like this happened in 1945, we’d have been a bit lighter on our feet because 1918-19 would have been still within living memory. We were able to mobilize for WWII very quickly because WWI was only 20 years before and there were many still alive who had experience to share.
It reminds me a bit of the Kennedy assassination. Very few were still around in 1963 who remembered the McKinley assassination, so we (I was in high school) didn’t know how seriously to take it at first.
