Canada is closing its borders to non-citizens because of the coronavirus pandemic, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Monday.
U.S. citizens are exempt from the ban “for the moment,” he said.
Trudeau’s wife, Sophie Gregoire, tested positive for COVID-19 week. Trudeau has no symptoms, but has been in isolation since last week as a precautionary measure.

“We can still slow the spread of this virus,” Trudeau said at a press conference. “It is time to take every precaution to keep people safe.”
Canada will make some exceptions to the closure of its borders, including for U.S. citizens.
“We will be denying entry to Canada to people who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents,” Trudeau said.
“This measure will carve out some designated exceptions, including for air crews, diplomats, immediate family members of Canadian citizens and, at this time, U.S. citizens.”

Trudeau during the press conference directed a message to Canadians who are traveling outside of the country at the moment.

Does this ban extend to air travel? Particularly does it extend to air flights FROM China to Canada? Past behavior by Trudeau indicates Chinese will still be allowed to fly to Canada.
All air travel except Canadian citizens. Canadians will be quarantined for 2 weeks upon return. The border will remain open between Canada and USA for now without restrictions.
