National polls are almost meaningless in forecasting modern presidential elections which are decided by a subset of counties in a handful of battleground states.

Yes, and no telling what the sample was. Poll-taking tends to be (1) biased, and (2) oversampled to the Left, stuck in the past when the majority of people registered as Democrats; that is no longer true.
