Being an executive is hard.

The media bashes our POTUS nonstop.

Where is the criticism of the chief executives of each state?

What say yee? Who is the best governor handling the COVID 19 outbreak, plus... what other state issues have they dealt with that rank the person best to serve?

I’m adding Ron DeSantis-FL, into the # 2 position. Without meaning to, I have not assigned any political persuasions to the nominees. I am going to leave it that way, and just go on merit and name recognition.

1 Greg Abbott- TX
2 Ron DeSantis- FL

Thanks Cboldt.

Looks like your confidence in government may be partially resurrected because the FDA just granted emergency approval for HCQ. U.S. scientists and technology to the rescue again.

When is China going to apologize for their virus?

I hope President Trump sees this:

Michael Reagan @ReaganWorld

I’ve never seen any POTUS even my father that could do a Q&A like trump and have a grasp of every questions asked without using notes..This is why we hired a business person to be president. Public Private partnership is going to save us

He said he saw them on TV at a neighborhood hospital that he was familiar with back in New York

I don’t think that’s such a stupid question. Do we want to be using fans indoors when there’s a group?

“The shutdown will kill more than this virus”

You have a valid point there.

Stocked up is not necessarily hoarding. Some states spread of the virus is a week or two behind, say, NY. I can’t imagine any governor unloading ventilators they might need, unless he / she has a rock solid guarantee of replacements if / when needed. I don’t think such guarantees can yet be given. Maybe in a couple months...

The other side of this is, why damn those who planned better?

Now, if a state literally has 2x the number of ventilators over the Feds’ “high side” estimate of likely peak need, then maybe that Governor should be getting a high level phone call. IMO, it is very unlikely any state is in such a position.

ALSO, some states are behind NY, etc., so that “lag” has to be taken into account as well. Granted that some of the lagging states should benefit from greater social distancing occurring earlier in their curve(s).

I do wonder why restaurants that could do it cannot be allowed to reopen but with distancing and much lower occupancy limits employed. “Smart” restaurants could post “seats available” throughout the day, and hopefully businesses could be more flexible in when employees could leave to eat. This way restaurants could fill in their “slow hours”. I know many are (or at least were some years back) almost dead in mid-afternoon.

This might not turn a profit, but it could help reduce losses until we get this virus beaten back.

That is the beauty of an exponential growth curve. It boggles the mind and challenges our intuition.

Well, for a few of us who get to deal with real life exponential functions often, they are routine in one sense and easily comprehended, but, at the same time, they pound deep respect into one as well.

To put this in perspective, we lost 61,000 in a bad flu season.

True, but the 80k - 110k figure assumes the actions we are taking now are fairly effective (given their late start).

It does not account for the negative effects of a damaged economy on health care ("Hon, we can barely get by - we have to put Mom in the crappy Medicaid paid nursing home, now."), and health itself (President Trump talked about this yesterday.) In the other direction it also does not allow that the "shutdown" measures should significantly reduce flu, auto accidents, and other causes of fastalities.

There are many other considerations, too, but, I'll leave it at that, for now.

Stay safe!
