According to the statement, While the Master was in contact with the head office, gun shots were fired and, shortly thereafter, the navy vessel approached the starboard side at speed with an angle of 135° and purposely collided with the RCGS RESOLUTE. The navy vessel continued to ram the starboard bow in an apparent attempt to turn the ships head towards Venezuelan territorial waters.
Should I be laughing? Is it really that funny? Just the image in my head of some hapless Venezuelan captain giving the order to ram a cruise ship again and again makes me giggle.
Coyote vs. Road Runner?
In a unrelated story...
The Venezuelan army attempted to surround and capture a troop of Columbian girl scouts. The girl scouts, selling cookies as part of a fund raising drive, were located at the outskirts of the central market of the small town of Manjuega.
Caught entirely off guard, the girls began throwing the cookies at the attacking Venezuelan unit of about 40 soldiers. With roughly equal numbers, the scouts tipped several of the tables over on their sides to form a type of shield. After several minutes, the Venezuelan army retreated to a safe distance and may have crossed back into Venezuela.
There were no injuries reported among the girl scouts, but several of the Venezuelan soldiers were hit in the eyes with Thin Mints, were left behind and required medical attention.
Maybe the Navy ship was going to seize illegal toilet paper on the cruise ship.........
Reminds me of the climax scene in “Hunt for Red October” when the Russian sub trying to sink the Red October and Remus, sinks itself! A terrific book and a terrific movie?
The utter hilarity of this is too much, almost along the same lines as “The Front Fell Off”.....frakin hilarious!

.
No coverage of this act of piracy in the mainstream media. None at all.
I was stumbling on a few things with this story.... icebreaker, cruise ship, Germans and in the vicinity of Venezuela but in international waters. Here is the website of the operator... apparently they do tours to both the Arctic and Antarctica but also South and Central America. https://www.oneoceanexpeditions.com/vessels/vessel-rcgs-resolute
The cruise ship is sort of like Trump in a way. He who attacks ends up, well, sunk.
The Venezuelans are messing with the most powerful forces on the entire ocean - the maritime insurance companies. "Oh, well, if they're going to ram merchants, from now on we won't pay off if you go there." That, my FRiends, is a genuine and serious threat.
