Looks like an Aircraft Carrier to me.

It is likely only one element of an amphibious task force, and of course, a package of reinforcements of various other ships and planes, and likely other amphibious task forces. You wouldn’t sent an assault ship into potential harm, without having the ability to prevail, or at the minimum, to extricate your guys. This is likely the tip of the iceberg that is poised to counter Chinese aggressions.

That’s no aircraft carrier. It’s an assault ship. Look up pictures of the difference. About 1/8 the firepower. Just a guess on the ratio.

I believe that Marine amphibious ready groups transport by helicopter and Ospreys. These "carriers" also have a limited number of F-35 jump jets, or Marine Harrier jump jets for close combat air support.

This one is a baby bird farm. The USS America is a “dead end” design. No more made in that class due to the design not having a well deck.
USS America appears to be 31st MEU which finished up in Thailand ops (Cobra Gold 2020) mid March.

The Iwo Jima was an LPH (LPH-2, to be exact); the LPHs didn’t have well decks. (The LPHs had also been decommissioned back in the 90s.)
