States stockpile Trump-touted malaria drug for Coronavirus fight despite warnings that more research is needed.
Washington Times ^ | 04/26/2020 | By Brady McCombs and Lindsay Whitehurst

SALT LAKE CITY — State and local governments across the United States have obtained about 30 million doses of a malaria drug touted by President Trump to treat patients with the coronavirus, despite warnings from doctors that more research is needed.

At least 22 states and Washington, D.C., secured shipments of the drug, hydroxychloroquine, according to information compiled from state and federal officials by The Associated Press. Sixteen of those states were won by Trump in 2016, although five of them, including North Carolina and Louisiana, are now led by Democratic governors.

Supporters say having a supply on hand makes sense in case the drug is shown to be effective against the pandemic that has devastated the global economy and killed nearly 200,000 people worldwide, and to ensure a steady supply for people who need it for other conditions like lupus.

But health experts worry that having the drug easily available at a time of heightened public fear could make it easier to misuse it. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Friday warned doctors against prescribing the drug, hydroxychloroquine, for treating the coronavirus outside of hospitals or research settings because of reports of serious side effects, including dangerous irregular heart rhythms and death among patients.

It’s the latest admonition against the drug that Trump mentioned 17 times in various public appearances, touting its potential despite his own health advisors telling him it is unproven.

Oklahoma spent $2 million to buy the drugs, and Utah and Ohio have spent hundreds of thousands on purchases. The rest of the cities and states received free shipments from drug companies or the U.S. government over the last month. Ohio received a large donation from a local company.

Well, anyone that feels it’s unsafe should let their medical folks know that under NO circumstance will they allow/authorize HCQS to be used in treating CV-19. More for me if I need it. Well as long as our gov sissypants doesn’t prohibit it.

Someone sent me a screen shot from Elon Musk’s Twitter back in November suggesting they try the same drug. Trump gets his ideas from experts and other people; the libs want to believe he just makes this up.

Let’s see....

Long term use of the drug under a doctor’s supervision to treat RA and Lupus - Good

Short term use of the drug under a doctor’s supervision to treat the symptoms of the Corona virus - bad.

I may be missing something there,

Interesting that Oregon got some free. Our governor has forbid doctors to prescribe it for CCP flu.

When this is over, the policy instituted by Democratic governors that does not allow primary care physicians to prescribe hydroxychloroquine in the earliest stages of the disease will be found to be the cause of much death and suffering. Unless hydroxychloroquine/Zithromax/zinc is prescribed early , its effectiveness diminishes. Early means fever and cough in this setting. If the patients are delayed this treatment until they develop shortness of breath, actual pneumonitis and a confirmatory COVID-19 test result, they are more likely to decline, require hospitalization and die. These governors must be held accountable.

It can be misused? Should I be getting a mirror and a razor blade?

Andrew Corleone Cuomo has a lot more to answer for by requiring that nursing homes housing the most vulnerable accept those still infected with coronavirus.

So Trump was "too late" in responding to the coronavirus, but states are wrong to stockpile a medicine "just in case"?

Well, Dem's media, which is it?

This is Trump’s FDA making this horrid ruling, just on Friday:

“The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Friday warned doctors against prescribing the drug, hydroxychloroquine, for treating the coronavirus outside of hospitals or research settings because of reports of serious side effects, including dangerous irregular heart rhythms and death among patients.”

HCQ is most effective early on, before the virus advances to the stage of hospitalization and least effective with advanced patients.

Clinical tests now, long corrupt, are being skewed to try to show that HCQ isn’t safe and effective when it is.

Early on, Gov Sisolak in Nevada announced that the use of HCQ was BANNED in Nevada. As IF he is a medical person!!!

Then, it was discovered that the Nevada Dept of Corrections was ordering massive quantities of the drug.

Another confusing, double-speak article. It’s is absolutely mind-boggling the disinformation and down-playing of the drug while people are dying. What good does it do to stockpile if it is not distributed to local pharmacies so doctor’s can get their hands on it? It drives me crazy!! The same goes for all the ‘trials’ they are fooling around with when they have sick patients waiting for relief.

Is ANYONE going to conduct a study that includes ALL THREE elements of the cocktail that started this whole thing in France? I’m sick of seeing studies that don’t use the zinc (that WE WERE TOLD FROM THE BEGINNING was an ESSENTIAL COMPONENT of the treatment) used to trash a treatment that THEY NEVER TESTED!!

We could use a little actual science around here.
