Our entire consumer base, is all imported from China.
Nearly everything manufactured.
Really.
(Not literally everything, but go into any Walmart)
Stay out of the grocery section, lots of food is from the States.
Just walk around.
Front to back. Left to right. Look at things. Kitchen hardware, knives, forks, spoons, plates, glasses, mugs, coffee mugs (all of them) Is all from China. Coffee equipment (all of it, coffee pots, everything for the kitchen). Electronics (everything). Fishing equipment (basically all of it). Camping equipment (everything). Tools, both indoor and outdoor. (Made in China). Furniture (All of it). Toys (All of it). Bicycles and goods (all from China). Car equipment (almost all from China)
We have stopped noticing how MUCH we import now, almost all of it from China.
China.
Possibly, the biggest threat in the entire world now, to everyone.
Really.
Now I confess not literally EVERYTHING manufactured, is from China.
But ... Way, way, way too much.
Not just in Walmart, either.
Everywhere.
Oh, and the BIG one.
Everything, in the entire world, about protecting Americans from everything.
Facemasks. Goggles. Coveralls. Gloves. massive amount of drugs. Vitamin pills, both individual vitamin supplements, as well as daily vitamins.
The entire pharmaceutical section.
All of it, with the exception of the sections from India.
Is most all.
From China.
You’re absolutely right. The challenge will be how fast can industry mobilize to bring manufacturing back. It needs to have the highest priority. China is not going to sit back and watch it happen.

That needs to change. And it will change. Some of the stuff will be coming to the USA for manufacture. And some will be going to Taiwan, India, Viet Nam.
There are lots of bread and butter issues on the plate.
It will be a tough and ugly election, but most of them are. I think enough of the electorate will go for Trump. I don’t have much of a feel as to how the congressional races will go but i would guess the Senate won’t flip to Democrats.
