A salon owner who reopened her business in defiance of Oregons stay-at-home order has been fined $14,000.
Lindsey Graham, who runs Glamour Salon in Salem, reopened her business on May 5 and has continued to operate despite Gov. Kate Browns executive order that requires businesses such as salons to remain closed, CNN affiliate KPTV reported.
Graham told KPTV last week that the move was necessary to pay her bills and provide for her family.
At this point, Im deciding that its more important for me to feed my family and pay the bills that are going to keep our home and our family alive than take the risk to remain being shut down for an undisclosed amount of time, Graham said.
A receptionist for Glamour Salon confirmed the $14,000 fine to CNN and directed further questions to Grahams email. CNN has sent an email to Graham, seeking additional comment.
A spokeswoman for Oregons Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) confirmed the fine, and said the penalty reflects both the nature of the violation and the employers willful decision to violate the law.
She is unquestionably operating in violation of the governors executive order, designed to protect workers and the public, she wrote in an email to CNN.
Some Oregon counties have begun reopening More than 30 counties in Oregon were approved to start reopening on May 15, the governors office said in a news release.
Under phase 1 of Gov. Browns reopening plan, several categories of businesses that had previously been ordered to close can now open their doors, as long as they comply with health and safety guidance.
That includes dine-in service for restaurants and bars until 10 p.m., personal service businesses, retail establishments, gyms and other fitness facilities. Local gatherings of up to 25 people will also be allowed.
Marion County, where Glamour Salon is located, has not been approved to reopen. That means that Grahams decision to operate is still in violation of the governors executive order.
Graham told KXL FM News 101 that she plans to fight the OSHA penalties.

Wow. This gal’s a Republican US Senator too. Sure gets around
I wrote the damn sentence right the first time.
I wonder if now that local governments have found most churches to be so willingly compliant in doing what theyre told - will they be able to resist the the temptation not to stop?
Our pastor plus about a thousand more were in a discussion with the state of Oregon about starting services again. The state did not want to let churches open. But according to the states own rulings the churches would legally be allowed to open in a couple weeks. The state said only 25 people could be in a room at one time. It didn’t matter if the room had capacity for 50 or 50,000, 25 was the limit.
I hope that she sues the Governor, and every official who had anything to do with this unconstitutional travesty, personally under 42 US Code Section 1983 - deprivation of rights under color of authority. There is NO immunity for these officials because of their jobs, because they are exceeding their authority.
That fine was cancelled in TX and that was great.
But it did happen.
People keep talking about what can’t happen.
Was a time a while back when NO shutdowns at all could happen in the red states.
But they did.
I’m sure they exist but I never saw a country where so many from one part wanted such bad things to happen to so many in another part....both ways.
It’s a shame.
In Butte County California, helping the in-laws with their orchards.
Got a haircut yesterday.
Went to Hobby Lobby and didn’t wear a mask
Went to bar and had a drink
Tonight took wife out and had a real sit-down meal in a real restaurant.
Everybody in the county pretty much has decided to re-open and County government just followed along.
Butte is lucky that it’s rural and far enough away from SF, LA and Sacramento that most Californian don’t even know it exists.
Oh and the county’s only had 21 cases.
Was it a law that was violated or an unconstitutional dictatorial edict from a public official.
All because the little people want to survive and not lose everything. This is sick s**t.

I know. I was going to say, what an unfortunate name.
She should open a gofundme account and so should everyone like her who has been abused by the government.
I know everyone has less to contribute these days, thanks to government abuse, but it might work as a way to assist in the cause of fighting these tyrants.
Oregon ping
Hmmm... wonder if her nickname is 'linda?'
IMHO, this will be challenged in court and tossed out.
This is America! Political hacks should not have that power. After the Red Wave of November, 2020, Republican-led legislatures should take away governors' authority to wield such power.
