OCONOMOWOC, Wis. (CBS Local) — A Wisconsin woman who has taken hydroxychloroquine for 19 years to treat lupus says the anti-malarial drug will not protect someone from COVID-19.
Kim, who doesn’t want to show her face or give her full name, says after the pandemic began, she only left her Oconomowoc home to go the grocery store.
But by mid-April, she started feeling coronavirus symptoms.
“Weak all over. Coughing, fever. The fever was very high,” she told WISN. “It just went downhill from there. I couldn’t breathe no more.”
Kim said she tested positive for COVID-19.
“When they gave the diagnosis, I felt like it was a death sentence. I was like, ‘I’m going to die,'” she said. “I’m like, ‘How can I be sick? How? I’m on the hydroxychloroquine.’ They were like, ‘Well, nobody’s ever said that was the cure or that was going to keep you safe’ and it definitely did not.”
Kim said even though she took precautions when leaving the house for the grocery store, she thought she would be safe because of what President Donald Trump has said about the drug.
Trump has repeatedly advocated hydroxychloroquine for possible treatment or prevention of COVID-19. On Monday, he revealed he had been taking the drug “for about a week and a half.”
“A lot of good things have come out about the hydroxy. A lot of good things have come out. You’d be surprised at how many people are taking it, especially the front-line workers — before you catch it,” Trump said at the White House. “I happen to be taking it. I happen to be taking it. … I’m taking it — hydroxychloroquine — right now.”

200-400 mg/day (155-310 mg base/day) PO as a single daily dose or in two divided doses
Doses >400 mg/day are not recommended
Sounds as if she took no ZINC in her cocktail. Under the impression BOTH are needed.
Good to hear she is doing better.
She assumes dosing for lupus is the same as dosing for COVID.... sigh...

Sounds like she forgot the zinc and the azithromycin. Too bad.
No mention of Zinc. I thought Zinc was a requirement of the Hydroxychloroquine treatment regiment. No mention of Arithromyacin either, which I hear is commonly included with HCQ and Zinc, but don’t know if it is a requirement.
I don’t think HCQ on its own treates Covid 19. Has to be with Zinc and possibly with Arithromyacin.
We also don’t know the role of Vitamin D deficiency in Covid 19 yet. It coud be she was severely deficient in Vitamin D. Some medical experts are saying that Vitamin D deficiency is a compliclating factor in the severity of Covid 19. We just don’t know yet. Maybe by the end of summer, with hindsight, we will have a more complete picture.

So...she was zinc deficient, and wasn’t supplementing with zinc. HCQ’s method of action against viruses is that it greatly increases the uptake of zinc into your cells (it’s a zinc ionophore.) Of course, increasing cellular zinc uptake won’t have much effect, if you don’t have enough zinc in your system.
And if you didn’t already know that, you have no g-d d—ed business publishing an article such as this one!

Even the best tests from France that tested 1650 patients was only 92% effective which means that for over a hundred people it didn't help.
Nothing is fool proof.
